Anyone else catch this? Jon Sim's kid called another kid in the OHL a pussy and the kid went and told the ref what he said and he got suspended for 5 games in the playoffs

Conveniently, the kid was the son of the director of officiating for the OHL

#Isles News: The New York Islanders have acquired a first-round pick (#20) and two second-round picks (#54 and #61) in the 2024 NHL Draft from the Chicago Blackhawks, in exchange for the team’s first-round pick (#18) and second-round pick (#50).

Added an extra second round pick. Moved down two slots in the 1st round and four in the second round.

Bizarre timing though, this seems like more of a draft-day trade. Makes me wonder if Lou or Chicago isn't about to make a trade

I think Lou just couldn't bear the thought of going a season without trading his first round pick, even if he's getting one right back.

It's really odd from both sides. I like the trade as-is for the Islanders. Back two spots in the 1st and four spots in the 2nd and they get an additional second round pick.

But the timing just seems...off. Makes me think one of the teams is up to something else.

Definitely odd timing. Could one of those seconds become an add for unloading a contract? Probably not, but hope springs eternal

Agreed...on both that it's a positive for the Isles as-is but also that it's a weird move to make at this time. Like you said, it's more like something that would happen during draft-day jostling rather than now.

If I ran a rumor site that just made things up on the spot, my "sources" would be telling me Lou's up to something bigger and you should stay tuned.

Definitely possible. Or just a straight-up trade. Who the hell knows. Or maybe Lou just wanted to add the 2nd to start restocking the cupboard. I like it for the Isles, just confused by the timing

Makes you think it may be setting up for something bigger but who knows. This years draft is by all accounts one of the weakest ones in some time at least from what I’ve read. Not sure how much that effects the value in a trade this season. Not a good year to start a rebuild. That was last years draft. Not that I believe for a second that’s the plan.

The good thing is we can have Engvall’s tutelage for the next six years. That will be instrumental for young players during the rebuild.

Here’s hoping that extra 2nd incentivizes someone to take said tutelage off our hands.

It’s going to take a lot more then that to unload that contract. There’s six more years. I actually laughed a little bit when I typed that out.

Oh I’m sure someone out there could be persuaded.

Persuading Engvall is a whole other thing.

Don't see the upside here for the Blackhawks, especially in a supposedly weak draft. Maybe it's reparations for the Bailey trade? We did send them a 2nd to take him off our hands.
