This draft is a hard one to predict, starting at #2. Ideally the top 3-5 would be set like most previous years, but this year its wide open after #1. It's really difficult to predict who the Hawks will take at #18, if there is a run on d-men or forwards earlier in the round that will impact who's available at the Hawks 2nd first round pick.
But there are lots of good options if they make it that far - Hage, Boisvert, Brandsegg-Nygard, Jiricek, Helenius, and EJ Emery. Emery might be a stretch, but if the Hawks take Demidov at #2 and want a d-man at #18 he could be the best option.
I like Letourneau at #34, but I'm not sure if he makes to to the 2nd round. - DarthKane
I think we will be surprised at who the select at #2 and #18.
#32 is going to be another solid chance to get a player.
I think giant-sized C-F Letourneau, giant sized left handed defender Jesse Pulkkinen, and possible middle six wing Brandsegg-Nygard all have a chance of being selected earlier than they should be. |

How big of a surprise can #2 be?
Levshunov,Demidov,Silayev,Lindstrom,D!ickinson,Buium?
Right?
Eiserman,Iginla,Catton etc...if they want one of them,I assume they'd trade down?
At #18 I could se a suprise, especially if they think they are smarter than everyone else. Maybe some off the radar pick like how they drafted Gajan last year. |
|
|
|
Will discuss more on @TFP Monday Mix later today, but the general consensus w/ league sources is that Martin Necas will be in line for a 6-8 yr deal at a $7-7.5M AAV.
CAR will take a run at signing him first before seriously exploring trade options, but there is heavy interest.
I'd give him a 7mil/6 year deal if I was Stan.
Not sure what he'd cost in a trade though |

Trading away a second round pick to move up two spots in the draft makes it very unlikely they’re going after an off the radar pick. I think they’re after a specific player. |

If KD keeps #18 I think he’ll go off the board and draft Dean Letourneau. - DarthKane
Anybody here realize Chris Chelios is listed at only 5'11, 191# ? Practically a smurf for a dman. 40th overall pick. So much for scouting. |

That and KD found out last year at the draft, it may not be easy to move up. Also, I haven't looked but you have to take into consideration who he jumped over and what they are likely to target. |

The Hawks jumped over Vegas. Do they even have an amateur scouting department? (I Kid). Wouldn’t be surprised to see them trade that pick for a player or 2 |

Well, #GoSensGo Brady Tkachuk’s name is going around in trade talks, according to Jeremy Rutherford.
Make it happen KD!
Korch + toronto 1st rounder 2025 + 18th in this year's draft.
Then draft a d-man at #2 or Demidov - captainserious
KD will never in effect trade three first rounders, even for son of Gretzky. Doesn't fit his plan of waves of players if somebody gets too expensive.

The cost to get Necas' rights are probably along the lines of a 1st and a prospect. I wouldn't trade this year's 18th. I don't know if CAR would want the Toronto's 2025 1st which would likely be in the mid-late 20's. But let's say it's the Toronto pick and one of DelMastro/Kaiser/Allen. Maybe more. Just spitballing. That doesn't seem unreasonable, whereas to me #18 and a prospect is. Could be more since CAR will be entertaining a lot of offers.
Or KD can keep the picks/prospects and sign guys like Kane for 2 years and a Teovu, Bertuzzi type for 4 years without trading away capital. As their contracts expire, guys like Moore, Hayes, Ludwinski, this year's pick(s) should be stepping in.
Personally I think KD is doing a slow walk regarding the rebuild and he isn't ready to trade away anything at this stage. Maybe next year or the year after. |

Carolina has some tough decisions to make. Necas is an excellent player but they have Seth Jarvis and Jake Guentzel to sign and they only have 3 Dmen signed for next year.
And they are never going to go far in the playoffs without improving their goaltending. Anderson wont get it done for them. Maybe Jim Rutherford would offer Thatcher Demko for Necas? |

I really, really hope davidson just does the right thing and take demidov, bpa with the #2. Then move up grom 28 and get another forwatd.. senneke, eiseman, hage or s defenseman if one is srill available. To me, levshunov has bust all over him. |

And why do you think Levshunov is a bust? Please promise if Levshunov is selected you won’t be calling him a bust out of the gate.
If Lindstrom‘s back checks out I’d bet a dollar KD chooses him. |

He might clearly be bpa but Davidson has more than just that to consider - like when is he available to play in North America. Whats it going to take to get him out of Russia? What other Russian(s) will I have to sign to help with the language and culture barriers.
And what offers might be on the table if I trade the pick? |

I'd be all in on that kid.
Supposedly a full medical report on him will be made available to all 32 teams fairly soon. |

I looked this up a couple of days ago using Puckpedia draft pick value as a guide.
#18 to #12 (Philadelphia) would require #36. (Hawks have #34)
#18 to #14 (San Jose) would require #48. (Hawks have #50)

So a translator is a no for you on demidov? Lol. And what russian in the past twenty years wasnt allowed to come over if he wanted to? All i read on this board for the past two months is that it MUST bpa. |
