I don't think KD is getting a new boss. KD could be looking at him as an "experienced" advisor. - rpeters01
Yeah thats why I put consultant as well. He's 65 so how hard does he wanna work at this stage but still be involved in hockey and maybe close to where he's from in Detroit. |

President of Hockey Ops maybe so Danny doesn't have to be as hands on. Maybe as a consultant so he can stay in hockey but not have all the stress. Kinda like the elder Bowman did. - fattybeef
Maybe Waddell has more experience dealing with Russians. |

Curious trade. Quality over quantity. You’d think this type of trade would be made if KD saw a player he wanted at 18. Unless this is a prelude to something more?

KD should have got #18 and #50 for #61
The Hawks got a 6th round pick in 2023 and drafted 6’6” forward Milton Oscarson. |

Did you notice that by giving NYI an extra pick, we also were able to get them to exchange the #18 overall for #20 overall
Two reasons why this trade makes sense:
1) The pow wow end of season conference with all the scouts and GM/staff is held and they have a not final draft of the top 20 prospects. After tier 1 prospects which ends in early teens there is a talent drop off. Perhaps someone though drops and is available at #18 but might be gone by #20
2). A couple teams need to replenish prospects as they have a barren cupboard. They may take two picks for one in round one, with KD objective to get the higher draft choice. Two picks in oh say top ten?
Presently the NYI don’t have a strong farm system nor does the Pittsburgh Penguins.
It is difficult to see S Jones traded at least until after next season but he could be a part of a trade involving draft choices because KD might consider loosing S Jones experience and his good points as worthwhile if he can draft a very good second prospect among tier I prospects. There really isn’t much anyone else you could trade so why not S Jones. Personally I believe we need to keep s Jones for one or two more seasons but I could understand his departure sooner if able to draft another top prospect due to including Jones in a trade
You have to wonder, too, if they draft Demidov and he cannot come over for a year and he might wind up having an injury issue due to his skating, we still wound up with a second tier I selection. Moreover, perhaps KD wants to draft a dman whose ceiling is first pair or dynamic like Yaremchuk or Pareyka (sic).
Trading a # 18 is better than a # 20 and the GM’s know this given the strength of this draft
So there are several things you can come up with but we just have to wait until draft day to see what is KD’s strategy
For sure loosing one second round choice when we have accumulated extra draft choices past present and future, is no big deal |

Agreed.
#18, 2026 2nd (NYI), Phillips, and Raddysh for Necas and the rights to Chatfield (who is promptly signed to an extension). |

Have some faith in KD, he’s done well at the draft since he took over.
2023 - Bedard, Moore, Gajan and Kantserov in the first 2 rounds (plus Lardis in th eardrum)
2022 - Korchinski, Nazar, Rinzel, Ludwinski, and Greene.
Bedard, Korchinski and Nazar have already played in the NHL. The others are still very good prospects. Paying a late 2nd to move up in the 1st and 2nd rounds this year is a price the Hawks can afford. |

They basically moved a very late 2nd (#61) to move up two spots in the first and four spots in the second. They have 4,327 draft picks (on top of the 22 they've made over the last two years). They're fine.
This draft class has been noted to be less impressive than the previous and now people are getting punchy about them paying to move up a bit in the first two rounds? |

I ran this thru the draft pick value calculator.
Technically KD got hood-winked (barely). He should have got Lou to throw in a 5th rounder to make it even. |

There’s a word you seldom hear these days. Yeah, old KD sure got himself hood-winked and you can be sure it won’t be the last time. |

It was the same pick, they traded one of last years second for a second this year. You can't count it twice

Some are just going to blast KD no matter what he does. If he stayed pat, and just used all the picks, they'd be female doging he didn't use some of his extra picks to move up for a better player.

Anyone watching the Memorial Cup, Moose Jaw @ Saginaw? Helluva 1st period to kick things off. Saginaw dominated the 1st, left catching Unger stood tall kicking out everything until Parekh circles at the top, wrister gets thru, tipped, 1-nuttin...
Parekh has his skating legs so I'm guessing he's better health wise than last series after a couple weeks off. High intensity hockey so we should see the kid vs solid opposition to see where he's at. |

When I heard the trade details I thought compensation for KD was a tad high but like StanBowPops&McD probably over drafting Allen, same with KD and Crew probably overdrafting Rinzel I'm perfectly fine with it...... You see something you want make it happen.
Tells me there is a plan and the youngest GM in the sport is gonna do his best to make it happen. Same as getting Rinzel, moving Dcat for the 7th, Dach for the 14th and trying to move up for Moore.
Also tells me fellow GM's find KD reasonable which is very helpful.

If KD does wanna move up further in the 1st rd having the 18th instead of the 20th is helpful. If nothing else he's closer to a target(s) and he added flexibility with the 18th should he need it.
Any reporting on which GM initiated the conversation?

Parekh gets a feed between the circles at the top, meets it with a no foolin with the puck 1/2 slapper, catches Unger a tad flat footed, 2-zip 7:30 into the 2nd. |
