Except that he didn't say talentless, did he though, based on the quote you provide above? He said Flyers needed quality talent and skill. And that Farabee was "just ok", meaning presumably he didn't have that quality talent.
You may disagree, which is fine, but I personally don't see the contradiction .. . - PT21
No. Read the quote. He said Farabee has neither. |

You see trades like that ahead of the draft in the NFL sometimes.
Hawks probably figure it’s cheaper to move up now than on draft day. They must think there is some kind of drop off after 18. - hereticpride
I hope all the guys they're hoping will still be there at 18 get taken |

no one is comparing bowman to torts, don't be obtuse. the point is wanting a guy to add defensive tools to his arsenal is not an inherently bad thing, as some have suggested.
i agree with your second paragraph. no one is going to let this happen, not even torts himself. he's stubborn but he's not an idiot. - anti-lame
Absolutely no one has suggested this. |

No. Read the quote. He said Farabee has neither. - Briere
I just did.
The phrase "quality skill and talent" was MJL's. JD quoted it and said Farabee has neither. By neither, he clearly means of the upper echelon 'quality' kind.
In his first post, he specifically mentions about Farabee: "Not saying he is a bad player or anything like that, just that he is just an OK player".
You may disagree about Farabee's assessment. That is subjective. I do myself, and I think the kid has hockey sense and untapped potential myself.
I just don't see the contradiction. Or the trolling. Or the stupidity etc. |

The stupidity is stating that Farabee is an OK player with OK skill. That may be his opinion but it is factually false. Which is also the attempt to inflame. |

I don’t care what your intentions were, that got me hungry. Haven’t grabbed lunch yet.
Tell me, has the greater Philadelphia area stepped up their BBQ action, or is it like here in Maryland - a dearth of quality brisket and without a solid slab of ribs to be found on the map. - Hesh_
There's definitely good BBQ in Philly. Mike's, Zig Zag, Fette Sau, Sweet Lucy's, North by Texas to name a few

The stupidity is stating that Farabee is an OK player with OK skill. That may be his opinion but it is factually false. - MJL
Since OK is a subjective term, it cannot be 'factually false'. What is unfactually false btw?
On an interesting note, Briere interpreted neither "quality skill and talent" to imply neither quality skill nor talent. To him, the quote in the previous sentence is like quality*skill + talent.
But to me, the term quality before skill and talent distributes. There is an implicit parentheses. It is more like quality*(skill +talent). So neither means none of quality skill nor of quality talent.
My reading is confirmed by the reading of the rest of the context.
Now, you will excuse me. I have to go cook.

Some just live in their own alternate reality. - MJL
Which alternate reality? The one where Bowman let Yzerman develop as a scoring forward for 10 years before he actually coached him?
That would be classic Flyers and a continuation of their flawed player development practices. Take a young player, put him in a situation that takes him away from his strengths and try to make him what he's not or tie his hands behind his back to make him a "two way" player. - MJL
Asking a player to be responsible defensively is in no way “tying his hands behind his back” and preventing him from scoring lol.
You seem to think that having a two way skill set means a player is solely focused on defense when im suggesting there’s nothing wrong with any coach not wanting their players to be a complete liability on the ice defensively. Yzerman still put up plenty of points while being a defensive stalwart.
I don’t expect someone who’s never sniffed a locker room to understand that

- PT21
It is a subjective term but reasonable people can come to agreement on what it generally means. Even with giving latitude stating that a player is an okay player is basically the same thing as saying he is an average player. His characterization of the player is inaccurate even with the ambiguity of the adjective used.
On an interesting note, Briere interpreted neither "quality skill and talent" to imply neither quality skill nor talent. To him, the quote in the previous sentence is like quality*skill + talent.

Wait .. I'm sorry, Jake is not a much better player than TK. Come on, we need to start giving TK some credit here. He is a legitimate 30+ goal scorer that plays 5v5, PK and PP and lead the league in short handed goals. He is a complete player, a leader and an agitator. A lot of teams would love to have TK. - jd250
This isn’t a pro pens post (their return was pretty bland) or a bashing TK post, as he’s a good player, but guentzel laps him |

Guentzel:

Only one of these guys was playing on a line with Crosby and a PP unit with Crosby, Malkin, Karlsson, & Letang.

Personally I hope not. It was an experiment in preseason by their idiot coach that was for like 3 games, who then (IMO) held his lack of success against him when he didn't produce at an unfamiliar position. (sound familiar?)
Once he was sent to Sochi he was back at wing where he belongs.
The Flyers IMO need to set up the entire franchise to benefit this kid in any way possible. Play him where he is most comfortable, implement a system that most benefits his style of play, and on and on. They need to run the whole thing through him as the tip of the spear. - MBFlyerfan
Claude Giroux and Sebastian Aho were drafted as wingers and made the transition to center at the NHL level. Giroux made the switch in his rookie season and Aho going into his 3rd. |

Yeah, I agree. Would prefer they find a natural #1C for him to play with but more so I’m not worried that it would derail his development. |

I get that. I just feel like he is on the smallish side and I would rather keep as much defensive responsibility off him as possible. That is not to say I don't want him to be responsible. Maybe down the road as he gains experience try him at center. But at least at first, I just want him to make plays and score.

Guentzel has had 4 30+ goal seasons with two over 40. Konecny has had 2 30+ seasons. Guentzel has had 5 seasons of a point per game or better. Konecny has had 1. Last season, Guentzel's 77 points were in 67 games played. Konecny's 68 points were in 76 games played.
