that seems like a very weird trade to move up 2 spots - dmnted
You see these trades all the time when a team really wants a player that is still on the board.
On may 24th? I don't remember ever seeing this.

yes it was the only time he wasn't suspended from the playoffs and see what happens ... - dmnted
If Kadri had a 5 year deal and got suspended 4 times out of 5 but won a Cup the one time he didn't, I'd take it every single second of the day over Kerfoot. |

So why didn't you share your crystal ball with Leafs management?
It would have been very helpful at the time. |

You didn't need a crystal ball to see the stupidity in that move. No different than watching Dubas the dumbass trade down to pick Dermott and Bracco over Konecny. Trade down to take Aho or Carlo? Or Cirelli? Genius. Dermott? Idiotic.
It would be like telling somebody, don't run a red light in traffic. |

Wait, so up until now you folks can't go to a gas station or grocery store to buy booze? You have to visit a dedicated "liquor store" ??? - GalacticStone
Yessir. Except for wine, local Ontario wine (aka the crappy stuff) has been available at grocery stores for a decade or more. Beer was a recent add to some grocery stores, but yes, it's been such a stupid rule forever, mainly because the Beer Store and Liquor Stores are government-owned, so they had a boatload of cash.

It's literally called the "Liquor Control Board of Ontario".
Fun stuff.

NYI wins this. This is a unique year where there is very little consensus from picks 5-25. It's all over the map. NYI scouts probably informed Lou that they truly have 5 or 6 guys at #18 that they are indifferent about. And that there is no chance they will all be off the board at #20. So if we move down 2 spots, we'll probably have the same group of 5 or 6 guys still sitting there. And maybe a similar issue to go from 50 to 54. In return we get an extra pick at #61. So we're getting 3 shots between 20-61 instead of 2. No idea why Chicago would do this. Very good chance whoever they pick at #18 is probably still there at #20 given the uncertainty of this particular draft.

It varies widely by state (or even county/city) in the US, but here in my neck of Florida, you can buy everything but hard liquor almost anywhere. Gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores, and even department stores can offer beer and wine products. You can only buy hard liquor spirits at liquor stores. In my county, you can't buy any alcohol before noon on sunday.
It's funny watching men checkout for groceries at Walmart or Costco here. Every cart has at least one case of beer in it. The women have bottles/boxes of wine in their carts.
Walmarts sell hard liquor by having a separate dedicated liquor-only store next door that is attached to the same building, but has it's own entrance. The Walmart near me actually has a wide selection of premium bourbons.

You have legal pot, but couldn't get beer at grocery stores.

Beer Stores are not government owned - a very common misperception.
It goes back to post-prohibition.
Government didn't want the responsibility of selling beer because it required refrigeration.
So the beer companies formed a co-op: the Brewers Retail.
Over time, Molson and Labatt's swallowed up all of the smaller brewers, until they owned all but 3% (Sleeman's owned the rest).
Government forced them to dilute it a few years ago, but it's still controlled by the big 2. |

Forgive my puritan heart, but I've always found it weird that you can buy beer at a gas station.
I know on a certain level it you drive to a liquor store, you drive to a gas station - no difference.
But it's weird. |

Not defending the moves but with all your vast knowledge I am amazed that you are not running your own NHL team. Or maybe AHL..Or CHL....
