For the sake of pure discussion.

Isles get:
Tkachuk
Chychrun

Sens get:
Barzal
Pullock
JGP
2nd

Forget the NTC and NMC. just look at players involved. Isles get younger and stronger.

The Cats are on a mission. I know McDavid wants to secure his legacy with a Championship, but the Cats are solid.

Oilers had some insane chances last night but couldn’t bury it. Bob had an incredible game. That was the difference.

Bob has been strong and the difference when called upon. That is why I figure the Cats in 5. Most say 6 or 7. I say 5.

Some of those other teams still have the great weather as a draw.

Found this proposal out there.

Lee, Nelson, Palmieri, Pageau, Pulock, Wahlstrom, Engvall............OUT

Ehlers, Guentzel, Debrusk, Beecher, Carlo, Toffoli, Monahan........IN

$32 million out the door, should be enough to bring in the aforementioned players via trades and free agency.

Pulock for Ehlers. Guentzel, Toffoli, Debrusk and Monahan via free agency. Beecher and Carlo via trade. Carlo replaces Pulock. Beecher replaces Pageau. Guentzel replaces Lee. Horvat, Barzal, and Guentzel would be lights out. Toffoli, Monahan, Debrusk would be an awesome second line. Beecher, Holmstrom, on the third line.
Cizikas centering the fourth line.

You are never going to fix every aspect of sports contracts. There will always be something. City life, tax free income, viable per state income tax, a big market verses a small market. The tax rate is different in Canada verses US.

I had mentioned maybe going to tier system where each tier has a max number and max term. to help keep younger players longer and not be penalized for paying players on 30 and 35 and hurting the team.

The bottom line is we live in a capitalistic society where there are differences. You have the haves and have nots. In reality the only ones it seems to piss off are the fans. Owners, players and leagues still making money.

I agree Nfd. No 100% solutions. I liked your idea of the tier system. Giving players close to 30 7 years and especially when they do not drive offense is a bad idea. A team like the Islanders should build through the draft and win smart trades. Maybe as the Islanders show they can be a consistent threat; they will have more luck in signing UFA's.

Maybe it is true that players do not want to follow Lou's rules or play NY taxes. The team has been competitive and has good amenities. Some think the jury is still out on Roy, but I think he is a better selection that Lambert. Personally, I like a fiery coach.

I said for years that you need a strong scouting staff in the cap era. Especially if you are going to use the 1st and 2nd rounders to bring in NHL talent.

Not sure that’s the version of Roy we have. Yeah he was in the past for sure but he no longer fits that description.

Even if we're putting aside the clauses that would prevent this from happening, why would Ottawa have any interest in trading Tkachuk and Chychrun for two players that are older and more expensive than the ones they're trading? Meaning of course Barzal being older than Brady and Pulock older than Chychrun. Pageau isn't a particularly attractive piece for what he costs and the 2nd isn't going to move the needle for them enough to do that.

Would I love to see the Islanders do it? Sure. Would Ottawa even consider it? No.

It's also a net increase of $7,344,286 for Ottawa.

It's wild that the Caps are buying CapFriendly and shutting it down to the public. It's like they had a meeting and said, "Sure, Tom Wilson being a human piece of trash has made us unlikable, but we want to be universally despised by every fan of every team. What can we do to make that happen?"

The end of Friedman's podcast covers a lot of it today. It make sense, but it still sucks. Apparently the league absolutely hates CapFriendly.

Why? Because it allows fans to second guess the GMs?

Probably because it let's us see teams that stay compliant during the regular season. Then when the PO start they are icing a team that is way over the cap. Then we complain when those teams win. Instead of the NHL actually fixing the issue by saying your PO roster has to fit under cap. Which would take star players out of lineups when all the casual fans are actually watching the games.

I like him, but he'll be yet another 29 year old that is a UFA next offseason and needs a raise from the $6M he's currently making.

I think the business model of the isles needs to be re-adjusted. The isles need to spend more on scoring and figure out a way to do so.

Team needs to spend more on scouting and development. Team has not been able to sign top UFA's even when they had the Cap room.

If they didn't have chuds like Engvall and Mayfield on ridiculous contracts the idea of paying a 29yo Ehlers wouldn't seem so terrible. But...yeah.

Ehlers is also pretty injury prone. I love him as a player but to pay him like $7Mx7 would be a tough pill to swallow if he misses 20 games a year.

Seems more negative than positive bringing Ehlers for the Islanders.
