Why would Calgary trade Tkachuk?
maybe he wants out but doesn’t want to make it public because he’s the captain and there’s no gaurentee Ottawa would trade him?
His brother demanded a trade. It’s not crazy to think BT is doing the same, Ottawa is garbage. - Santo_44
M. tkachuk didnt demand a trade. He told them he wouldn't be resigning. then Tree got a pretty good return all things considered |

Yeah - Shanny can't do what needs to be done... at that point he admits failure and wasted years and it falls on him...
Everyone has known this set up was flawed... but now Shanny has run out of straw men... Berube will have no better luck than all the others, sadly.
Excellent reguar season.. crap shoot playoffs with band aid goalie tandem and patchwork D because no money for properly fixing either...
Eveyrone keeps harping on Domi and Bert... when the D should be the major focus...Riles and whoever else they can limp into the lineup.
TJ / Gio gonzo... lilly whatever... and the rest basically spare parts on a contender. - dozerD10
The Leafs gave up 2.57 goals per game (currently 6th best of all 2024 playoff teams).
Every year, Leafs fans (and non-Leafs fans) complain about the goaltending and defence.
If you look at the actual stats, they haven't been bad the last few years.

Can we please stop suggesting that two guys (hell, even one) are going to waive their NMCs to go to Ottawa? |

You could be correct.. But Ask yourself... do you feel confident with that grouping ... both D and Goalie going into next year for a contender - Being able to withstand injuries and such.
It just seems that instead of worrying about domi and burt - they should be looking to shore up the backend and Goalie situations a bit better..

Really!!!??? Come on!!!!!
Cause he told the Flames he wasn't going to resign with them
BT got a contract with no trade protection.
I see from Capfriendly that the Sens will be tight up against the cap |

I am correct.
And that's the point.
Toronto fans and media create this bullpoop fog of the defence and goaltending never being good enough, so we are always chasing guys to "fix" a problem that doesn't actually exist.
They problem with the Leafs for the past few years has been our star players haven't produced in the playoffs. The defence and goaltending have been adequate.

I don't care how afraid anybody is of Brady Tkachuk, he's been in the NHL 6 years and never made the playoffs. You can't fear a guy that doesn't even make it.
Edmundson was a pylon, even at his best in St. Louis, he was a 3rd pairing guy with 4 way better guys doing all the hardest work. He was on the ice for an average of 1 goal against in 16 min per game in the playoffs.
Marner is not Wendel Clark. Everybody knows that. But that's not his job. Stop trying to replace Marner with a tough guy power forward and begin to realize you need a power forward to play WITH Marner, not in exchange for him. You gain one big piece and you lose another. You're no further ahead. - Rare_Jewel
You're right, he's not Wendel Clark. What he is though is the only player that I have seen on the Leafs roster that absolutely shies away from physical play in the playoffs - when there is a huge emphasis on physical play.
I love regular season Mitch Marner. I love his vision, his passing, and his penalty killing.
I don't love playoff Mitch Marner. I don't love him looking scared and intimidated. I don't love him refusing to sacrifice his body to make his play. I don't love him throwing the puck into the crowd for delay of game penalties because he's too scared to carry the puck to make a play.
If the Leafs want playoff success Mitch Marner is not a player they should be banking on IMO. |

Holy Fak THANK YOU for this. You saved me typing it out!
All the wet panties to go get Saros or whatever goalie is the flavour of the week and drastically overpay to do so is simply people looking at the small carpet stain in a car when the tires are bald AF.
Sure a carpet without a stain is better but it's not why your car has zero traction in the rain!
Replace the god dam tires.
Then fix the carpet stain if / when you have time, and the ability (money) to do so.
Short term just go and buy a floor mat (older, serviceable veteran type goalie) to cover the stain (take the reins if needed due to injury etc.) a la 1A / 1B.

I was trying to figure out how to keep with your analogy, but I couldn't do it, so I'm going to just go to plain English.
The core 4 have the talent. We should always keep talent.
Get Berube to figure out how to make them use their talent in the playoffs.
One easy example: Matthews didn't play in traffic in the playoffs like he did in the regular season (the heat map comparisons are stark and frightening).
He has the talent to do so. He has the knowledge of how to do it. Get Berube to make him do it.

The only thing it would seem is the goalies have been injured or the guy in net misses a save that needed to be a timely save. For the most part I agree. I'm unsure what people keep complaining about.
Leafs have a solid 3 guys right now. Rielly, McCabe and Benoit. Need a solid guy for Rielly and I think they will be in a reasonably good position.

What part of the panthers d are you so confident in that they will or could make it to the cup final this year? Let alone with pretty much the same guys did it last year?
You don't need big known names to have a quality defense.

This.
Special teams have been the issue.
But i would still like to see an improvement on the backend for quality |

Sure find upgrades. It's definitely possible. I simply don't like the sentiment that the d corps needs to be completely remade.
PP was 1 for 21. That's the most glaring stat of the playoffs. 5 for 21 and they are getting wrecked in round 2 instead of Boston.

Good point, I agree with what you are suggesting 100%.
Sorry I slip into speaking into analogies too often, it's 100% due to some members of my work team need to hear things that way for it to sink in
Side note - "Matthews needs to learn to drive in rush hour on the 401 when the playoffs come instead of only taking the 401 off peak (if there is such a thing) and he ain't got no transponder to take the 407!". |

Replacing half the d corps, is a pretty big remake.
Had the pp scored 2 more goals, the leafs would have won. Imo.
The pp is boringly predictable. I do feel we need someone that can rifle a shot from line....and actually hit the net. |
