Really? Only 1 player that’s going to make a major impact? I think there might be a few more. Past drafts have shown that this is a total bs statement.
Point is the Flames may have their eye on a certain player that they feel won’t be there when they pick 9th. Not doubting that they’ll get a great prospect at 9 but they may feel they’ll get a better one at 4.

The boys on Backburner think there is really no point in trading for a few spots up in this draft. After Celebrini, 2 thru 12 can either be duds or superstars. So our #9 pick if we got lucky, could be technically the 2nd best player in the draft. So my view is, pay a price to get two of these darts. These players are also going to be 2-4 years away from being in the league & making any kind of impact. So teams like Ottawa, Jersey & Buffalo want NHL difference makers right away. Markstrom is one of those players. & I laugh when I hear fans downplay Markstrom being 34 & too old. Guess what, Bobrovski is currently 35 & playing friggin amazing & backstopping his team to the finals. I also chuckle on a lot of these sites where there are tons of mock trades with Ullmark & Saros & they all want subject to extensions & they forget that would be impossible to do prior to the draft for either of them. 2 years left for Markstrom makes giving up that valuable of an asset for him a lot more palatable.

What's the point of that? It's very much a quantity over quality draft this year. Lots of solid options but really only one player who's likely to make a major impact. There's nothing close to a consensus on picks 2-15 and the difference between the 4th and 9th this year is minimal.

Demidov is really the only player worth moving up for and he has a bunch of red flags.

Just hoping that Catton or Buium are still on the board at #9.

Or both if Markstrom gets shipped for #10.👀

Just saying if Conroy wants a certain player ( Iginla) that he might move up to get that player.

Catton is a smaller player but has tons of talent. Do you think Buium will sign in Canada? Or pull a Fox?

I think either way, if we score another top 10, say the Jersey pick, how huge will it be to scoop a forward & a Dman from this group. Whoever we get will be bluechip prospects we badly badly need coming up the pipe. Then if we suck next year, pretty likely, we get another top 10 blue chipper in the pipe. Add cap space to weaponize & then its game on for retool!

This is the way.

But, they need to calm their tits with and free agent signings. Best to be patient than blow your load when you have cash in the bank. I am still haunted by the numerous sheit signings by Treliving.

I would like to see that happen, as well as selling off Kuzmenko and Mangipani for 2025 picks. I’d be ok with listening to offers on Kadri, Coleman, Andersson and maybe even Weegar if the return is right.
Take back some short term cap for more picks. Finishing near the bottom next year should be the goal. If we could add a Martone or Hagens type player, that would put us in a good spot.
If they do it right it could be a quicker turnaround.

After the stunt that Cutter Gauthier pulled this year it’s certainly possible Buium falls due to a few gun shy management groups.

Report out that Markstrom was asked to waive his NTC. Not sure if agreed but who knows no reliable sources confirm.

With the draft and trading season upon us soon, I think the Flames will be looking to trade some of their winger depth as they will soon face some tough waiver decisions if they dont.
12 current wingers on our depth chart for 9 spots:
Hubie, Mange, Kuz, Coleman, Sharky, Pospisil, Zary, Duehr, Hunt, Coronato, Klapka, Pellts.
Sharky and Zary have played center but they are best suited to play on the wing IMO.
Honzek and Stromgren developing with the Wranglers.

Wonder what Coronatos trade value is?
Could we pair a young winger with Marky in a trade?

Mange played well with Couzins at the World Championships.
Not suggesting the #11 pick straight up but I wonder if the Sabres would have interest in Mange or Mange with 50% retained?
Maybe Mange or Mange with 50% retained plus #28 for #11?

Mange pretty much has negative value after his play last year. I imagine if they want to trade him, they will have to retain.

If he does not want to be here, and to me he was pretty pedestrian last year, it would be great to see him play his way of the team with great play rather than crappy play.

It would also be nice to see Edwards commit to making this team better and retaining some money. It would really speed up the rebuild. I am it sucks having to retain salary, but he was the one that signed off on have of these crap contracts. The tax payers just gifted him a new stadium, retaining some cash is the least he can do.

I am still a little sour that the Markstrom deal fell through. I think the attitude around these parts would be quite different if he was traded.

Not sure the retaining was as big of a deal as the fact we were in striking distance of that last wildcard & he wanted Flames to sell & try to make playoffs & that meant keeping Marky. I dont agree with either, but money talks I guess.

I understand, but trying to make playoffs with a flawed roster is what the Flames do really well.

Shame they cannot hang participation ribbons from the banners.

Trade Mangiapani, play Zary at center, if we’re including any young winger it should be Pelletier although I’d rather not.
