This is why I think Canucks should make a trade for Kotkaniemi who has six years remaining at 4.8 mil. He is 23 years old. His cap for a third line center now is fair and should get better as the cap increases. His buyout hit is extremely cheap if he does not work out in the next 2 to 3 years.

Carolina are looking to dump him and we are looking to dump Mikheyev. Serves both needs.

This is exactly how I feel about Kotkaniemi. I would like to get Necas from them too but he’s a bit of a red flag. I do think him and Pettersson would be deadly together.

Guentzel is the dream player for Petey though. They’d kill it.

I don't mind this but what if Raty can be him for say 2.5 mill x 4 or something. I do think keeping Hronek is very important because he's right handed and plays a ton. I honestly love lindholm but think it's going to be in that 7 to 8 range as well which is madness.

Keep Bluger keep Hronek Sign Guentzel sign Myers sign Dillon

Start to bring in De Petey maybe Willander year after next but that may be a bit quick

I don’t see much savings from Canuck prospects making the team. None slated to do so would fill high end roles.

So the Canucks will be pressed to find the cap room to sign high end players. I see maybe one top end signing and losing everyone else.

I am fine with the Canucks dumping Hronek while they can and going with a big defense like Soucy, Myers, Zadorov, Haakanpaa, Dillon, Edmundson, Cole and Tanev, as examples, obviously Juulsen as the #7.

Edit, trying to get Nick Paul from Tampa would be a nice addition

The problem with having a big defense is them being less mobile and a lot of our system relies on players that can skate to get into position and less on heavy hitters. I'm also fine with dumping Hronek and getting a mint for him and getting bigger D, but they need to be able to skate well too and actually be able to handle the puck rather than mad scramble to hoist it out of the zone.

This fanbase forever catering to Pouty is a bit nauseating at times. His 1st season here, he played with Boeser, after Boeser had a 29 goal season playing with Bo. During the off-season after Pouty"s 1st season, Benning had said that Pouty had requested another top player to be added to his li e, hence the trade for Miller.
Mea while, Brock original centre had been given nobodies, but still managed to carry a line on his own, while 1 line got stacked in order to appease Pouty.
Now, Pouty struggles with the pace of former linemates Miller and Boeser and can't carry a line by hi self, like the former captain, or like Crosby has been doing his entire career( while being paid 2/3rds of what Pouty will be getting paid.
Now, fans, and I am sure Management are going to be out on a prowl again, in order to find a player to carry Pouty, like Boeser, Miller and Kuzmenko have had to do.

End of rant.

I don't disagree, but as we see every playoff, the bigger defense teams tend to go further, take a look at a guy like Bouchard in Edmonton, he has beenan excellent defenseman this playoff and he is a big guy with excellent offensive skills(as compared to Canucks offensive defenseman).
Size matters and it was enjoyable watching Canucks this past season, a big part of that was because of the hulking and solid play of those big boys.

So sign Guentel or bring up Karlsson or Baines? I think you guys need to forget about signing Guentzel then you need to forget about finding golden nuggets on the farm. If the team is turning to the farm this year and calling in three to four players then lower your expectation on making the playoffs.

I think most on here know I think Petey's overpayment is a big mistake so you need to take a couple of value contracts this summer. I mentioned the Kotkanniemi trade, another one I would throw out is ( I know most on here will hate it already) is Hronek to Philly for Ristolainen (2 mil retained) Florida's first and Oliver Bonk.

I know most here hate Risto but he is nowhere near as bad as people think. He is Tyler Myers type player for three years at 3 mil per. Bonk is a first round RD.

Brendan Batchelor today talked about trading Boeser while he is a 40 goal player with a very good contract instead of trying to sign him again next season.

Kotkanemi >>>Mikheyev though.
Van would have to add a tonne to make that trade. No team is giving us value for Mikheyev at his price point.

I like giving Vantel the gears, he was high on Mikheyev and is high on Ristolainen, he tends to like these bottom of the lineup types. I will give him some credit though, he is a fan of Zadorov.

Hey you can't be right all the time , but mark my words Mik will turn into a 20 goal guy soon as he is out of Vancouver. He just needs to play with a true center.

People that think Risto i hot garbage are not too bright.

Like Zadorov, very few wanted that trade, despite what some think, was a big upgrade. People also laughed at wanting to protect Juulsen. Risto is like Myers 2.0 and proper coaching will go a long way.

Big Dmen that can move the puck are what you need to win. Risto is not worth five mil but is a good get at 3 mil. People said Dillon was not good in his own end also. Every Dman makes mistakes and you need to have a system to limit those mistakes.

As far as Kotk Carolina are trying to move him.

Could build a trade like this:

Hronek (RFA rights), Miky, Klimovich for Kotkanemi, Necas (RFA rights), Pesce (UFA rights)

Nice. Now do the Canes want to pay Hronek a big contract? They are known as a budget type team.
