Thats 2 years from now, but 1 year from now we will have to give them contract extensions. So whatever we do this year, will directly affect us next year. Im gonna hope to speak this Marchessault thing into existence. Other positions may be filled/replaced via trade, but 1RW is one that can be solved via FA.
Ive seen some Jack Drury rights for Kakko rights trades, which could work for us. Especially if they move on from Chytil. - aecliptic
It’s why I am not worried. I think a bit contract will be gone and they won’t overspend on free agents |

This right here is an illustration of why the people calling for a firesale are not NHL franchise executives. They have an answer for every question except "which team do you work for?" - Tonybere
But Tampa wasnt afraid to trade young players (as well as draft picks) who werent quite fitting in to what they were doing leading up to the Cup wins.
Just cause theyre young, and you drafted them, doesnt mean theyre a fit. To me it seems like I keep watching management trying to put a square peg in a round hole with Chytil. As far as Kakko, I think the ship has sailed there as well. |

Thankfully, Schneider's progress I think has made Trouba expendable. A luxury that I think might have come a year sooner than we were expecting. |

True. But, just because you got beat by a hotter/better team in the Conference Finals doesn't mean you blow it up, either. |

With the way the playoffs are set up, the most important thing for teams is being able to beat your own division in the playoffs. If you can do that, you can at least make the ECF. The core we have now has proved over the last 3 years they can do that. Sure last year was a dud but changes were made following that loss. In the past 3 years we've beaten: Carolina twice, Pitt and Washington. Losing to Florida, Tampa and the Devils.
They need to figure out how to better construct the roster to compete in the later playoff rounds vs the atlantic division and eventually the western conference, but the fact that they have demonstrated an ability to win playoff rounds vs their division is no small feat and there's no guarantee that blowing up the roster and rebuilding will get you any closer to where we currently sit |

I think that’s a good point.
The org is in bed with this current core whether the fans like it or not. They’ve given out clauses, long term deals, etc and it’s foolish to turn it around now. Tweak where you can and hope for the best is really all you can do to stay on track with the plan
We’re close imo, and the year Laf had is important for the future because there are no more questions about him. Which we still had before this year started. He’s the face of the team which you need to have for a decade or more to really be successful after these big guys we have now are gone [/img] |

They can negotiate a long term deal for Laf this summer, right? That won’t kick in until after the year? If so I think they should try to do that. I think he will only drive his price up if they wait, especially if he starts getting PP1 time and racking up more points. |

Well, I dont think Im blowing it up either. How is trading Trouba (a player who captained 3 consecutive playoff exits after leading a series), Chytil and Kakko (2 guys who play on the 3rd line) considered blowing it up?
Panarin, Kreider, Zib, theyre not getting traded. All you can do now is surround them with with quality that can kinda do their own thing.
Trading Trouba and Chytil clears up 12.4m (10.4m if we have to retain 2m on Trouba), you can use that money to sign Marchessault for 6.5m (1RW, who does the majority of his scoring at even strength) as well as Stephenson for probably 5.5m (3C, who also does a majority of his scoring at even strength). Stanley Cup winners together, they know what it takes. You've now, in theory fixed the 2 lines that struggled mightily in the playoffs. While also opening up a space in the lineup for one of the kids to move up, likely Othmann. |

If they trade Trouba and Kakko for picks that’s a lot of money to play with
You know me with Chytil how I destroyed him for awhile, I think he finally made it before he got hurt and was off to a great start this year. I think we should at least hold on to him for one more season. Worst case he’s on LTIR because of any injuries. Not having Fil really screwed the 5 on 5 numbers people jizz over too because that’s when he is really noticeable
I said the same thing about Kakko tho |

Chytil is one swift breeze away from sitting out another year, and then we get nothing for him. Atleast hes back, played in the playoffs, a rebuilding team could take a gamble on bringing him in. While we go ahead and bring in proven players. |

Taking that hit by Mikkola was a good sign imo. Didn’t seem to effect him, he was scratched because his legs were heavy it sounded like |

I'm definitely open to trading Trouba and agree with everyone that he is overpaid and had a bad playoffs. Having said that, this is one of the most ass-backwards, nit-picky ranger fan statements I've ever seen.
Without the agenda of wanting to fire Trouba into space, this could have easily been written as "a player who has captained the team to 2 ECFs in the past 3 seasons and last year energized a floundering team with his infamous "helmet throw" that was universally renowned as a turning point in the season"
Again, not saying we should keep Trouba or that he isn't allowed to be criticized, but come on

Ah yes, lets hand out playoff participation trophies.
Reenergized a floundering team that ultimately choked in the playoffs after being up 2-0 against the Devils, wiping the floor with them 5-1 in consecutive games, then loosing the next 3 out of 4. |

Agree w/ Chytil...Trouba trade will require NYR to keep some salary, so it will probably hurt more trading him and get a lesser Dman. Kakko, as a 3rd liner is fine.
IMO having a legit top 3/6 RW will go a long way. Adding a big/mobil Dman is paramount too. Trade Goodrow and let Rozy, Rouweidel, Wennberg walk. Also explore trading Milller. He will fetch a nice return. Had hopes for him, but he just seems like a player who will be a quagmire his entire career. Finally, NYR just can't sign Lindgren long term, so trade him. IF Drury can get that RW, and top 4 Dman, along w/ signing some vets who can drive play and play w/ jam...NYR can get over that hump

It’s getting to a point with Trouba that if he cured cancer people would be pissed at him for not doing it sooner lol
He has value which very few people see. I almost want him traded just so I don’t have to see his name here anymore |

Yea because that was 100% Trouba's fault.
Who is giving out participation trophies? Recognizing the difficulty of advancing to the conference finals is not a participation trophy. Nobody is looking to hang a banner. A reasonable person would say that making the final 4 two out of three years means this team has been doing something right.
Again, nobody is saying last year wasn't a dud and a disappointment, but I don't remember anybody blaming Trouba last year. Fox was no good, Panarin sucked, Laf sucked, Mika wasn't good. Trouba was the one of the only ones that showed some energy laying out Meier and some other big hits |

Only bringing him up because we’d be able give him around 5 million probably, unlike last year, but I wouldn’t put Tarasenko to bed yet either. He wanted to be here. I’m not sure Florida can keep him and Reinhart on FA day |

It's insane. I tend to lean optimistic with this team (not quite to your level) which I get is out of favor right now but some of these takes are just crazy. This blog was blowing each other after Game 6 against the Canes, Tom admitted he was wrong, Brukie was feeling optimistic for once etc. etc., and then after losing a hard fought series to the defending EC champs we're ready to blow it all up. Laviolette who everyone had a hardon for all year is now on the hot seat with some people.
I get we're in the beginning of offseason blues but this place just feels like Kanye West these days. Bi-polar |

The point is, I believe Schneider has passed Trouba on the depth chart and we simply cannot pay a guy 8m to play on the 3rd pairing. Its a lot of money tied up when we need a 1RW and potentially an entirely revamped 3rd line. |

At the time of that hit: Rangers were already losing 2-0 in game 7, with 14 minutes left in the 3rd period. That hit literally evoked and meant nothing. |
