If, as EF alludes to, they are afraid to make a move because of fan reaction, we are well and truly screwed.

He didnt saw anything about being afraid to do a move due to fan reaction.
He said they dont want to make a trade based on emotion like some in management feel they did with kadri.
He also said they arent willing to lose the trade.
Both points above are good |

I dont think you win a trade with Marner. It's more a cap/business trade not so much a hockey trade. The win comes more in altering and balancing the roster moving out the
High salary and reallocating that money.
Far as Kadri goes wasnt a great return but beyond the right move for a number of factors and reasons. If management cant make hard decisions because they are worried over past moves years ago then time for a management clean house again. Cant make hard decisions then get out!! |

EF says that the concern is about how fans/media will react if Marner went into next season without an extension.
That's part of the discussion with Marner's camp .... if both sides agree to let the last year play out .....does he want to deal with the negative attention? |

sounds like a fun season on pissing off the fans
Marner plans to honor the final year of his contract with the Leafs.
Despite fan speculation, Mitch Marner’s camp is not pursuing trade options or contract extensions. His agent, Darren Ferris, has confirmed there are no active discussions about a potential trade or extension this summer. Instead, Marner aims to start the upcoming season and evaluate the situation as it unfolds.

A 99pt winger isnt being traded just to get cap space. Hes moved for the right pieces.
Maybe the hard decision is to not trade marner. |

The fans would react the same way they did for willie last year, who went into the season with no extension. No real reaction.
The supposed "fan outrage" is all bs media end of season filler. |

It's the likely decision. Leafs are a very frustrating team. I would venture that the Leafs' swear jar will be filling up nicely with Berube around.

So the agent of the player who struggles when the pressure gets cranked up in the playoffs is saying they aren't looking at trade options (not surprising) nor any extension this summer? The 2nd part makes zero sense, I can't see Marner wanting to have this play out as a distraction all season long.
Either the quote is a partial one to build a narrative (this is what I think it more likely is than anything) or Marner has just grown up to make stupid decisions on his own (or has been convinced by someone like Daddy and agent that this is the path to a fat new contract.
IF this is true regardless of who crafted this plan it is insanely risky IMO because unlike Nylander who has a "I Don't GAF" attitude, Marner wears his emotions on his sleeve.
If the pitch/thought was 'let it cool down and the fans forget about the playoffs when you rack up points in the regular season we can easily get the fans on our side and you will get the huge raise you want/we have convinced you that you deserve Mitch because the Leafs will be the bad guys if they don't give it to you just like last time" then this will be some grade A soap opera of a season - especially if Marner struggles at all.
This can't be true - Marner seems like the type who would want to start the year without this being something he gets asked about endlessly. Guess we will see.

The agent is going to do/say whatever he needs to in order to drive up the price.
and implying that Marner would be fine walking for nothing and then making a decision as a UFA is easily the best way to do that.
