I honestly don't know what I want to see, but feel the discourse is reverting back to Brian Burke's "more truculance" apporach...that 18-wheeler ended up playing out really well. - vermie22
I’ve been watching Mitch since he was here in London. Talented as hell but not physical. I’m not saying it to be an ass but it’s the truth and always has been.
Due to this will he fit under Berube who likes a two way physical game (opposite of Marner)? I’m guessing no but I’m wrong a lot lol. |

Doesn’t mean his game plan style includes them all. If he’s the type of coach who wants a physical forward group Marner won’t fit. - Dozzer
Berube already said it’s not about hits.
It’s being hard on pucks and effort. |

Ya, with the amount of takes, lighting and camera changes, just easier to work with fake ones.
And maybe the legality issue as well lol |

Marner is the definition of an east-west player. He'd skate into the stands if he could to avoid contact. Berube said he wanted his team to play fast, north-south. That means driving the net, hard. NOT Marner's game at all. He's not going to change. |

Yeah he wants quick movement and hard forcheck. Makes sense they bring in Savard for the puck movement on the PP.
The difference will be accountability, effort and a more simple game.
Like Babcocks way of play ironically. |

It means net drive with speed. Fighting for ice, not curling off. Marner is not going change. He won't do it.
I'm glad Berube is here. To be blunt, Ive loathed the Kyle Dubas era approach to hockey. Curl back possession game. A bunch of perimeter Nancies.
I just don't think Marner can do what Berube wants. |

Wasn't Marner's best playoffs vs the Bruins under Babcock, who did implement a more North South system vs Keefe?

Dude that was like 8 years ago. Give me (frank)ing break. He's had plenty of opportunity to perform in the playoffs. |

Just saying he did perform well in a north-south system, so why can't it work again? |

So, we should keep Marner because he had a good playoff 7 years ago?

Marner has never truly played north/south at all. Where are you getting that from? |

Bozak and JvR did maybe? So, it made Marner look like he did as well? |

He was great last year against tampa. Him and AM were the main standouts. Followed by morgan and ROR |

No I think the only player Treliving should not be trying to move right now is Matthews. But I know the reality of the situation is more then likely the status kuo.
Marner does not wan to go, and he has full control.
Managment does not want to make the team worse for the sake of change, as confirmed by past action/inaction and recent "leaks" to the press.
I also honestly feel there is some element of other GMs being too afraid to look bad in a trade with the TML and many won't ever really try to get involved in a large scale trade with them. Making any kind of trade of Marner/Nylaner/Tavares/Rielly that much harder to pul off. |

It may have to involve taking salary back, most teams can't afford to pay $11M to a single player

Was just stating he performed well in a north-south system in the playoffs. So there is reason to believe that he could do so again. I feel all he needs is room, and if his linemates are playing a system that helps to create that room, he can and will be effective.
I know he won't make that room for himself or his linemates, and that is an issue. But if he remains on the team, that is Berubes job to figure out. |

Ya they probably give marner a year under Berube to see how things turn out.
Run it all back.
Where are all the "look how long it took Washington and Colorado" people now?

The salary back will be the quality D or forward they get.
The leafs arent making a bad trade....in their minds. |

A dream would be Harley
The only team in the NHL with a surplus of top of the line D
I know its one of the more unlikely scenerios but get a team to eat 50% of marners cap hit after July 1.
Marner at 6M for Harley and Dallas pays the pick it takes to retain Marners cap hit. Will only be 350K in actual dollars.
