Before their road trip opening game Friday night in Oakland, the Toronto Blue Jays announced that right-hander Alek Manoah will have season-ending surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow.

That blows -

Maybe mcjesus gives you and extra 5 -8 goals but he doesnt make you a 50 goal scorer.
You have to have the skill.
And no, yarncock doesnt get 40....maybe 30 if hes really lucky

- Fakepartofme

There is a long enough list of guys that have played with generational talents and scored 20 + goals more while playing with the generational than they did at any other time of their career. So it could very well be that McD has increased Hyman's productivity by more than 8-10 goals

What other team had $40m locked up in four forwards?
- Fakepartofme

With that logic why did it take 14 years for Ovechkin to win his cup? I mean, everyone said you can't win with Ovi but then he did win. /shrug

#ShouldhaveTradedHim since his 50 goals didnt get them anywhere

If Marner stays and the Leafs sign both Domi and Bertuzzi (in the $5m range), the cap hit for the Leafs top 6 forwards will be $57m.

The cap hit for the top 6 Edmonton forwards next year is $39m. (all signed for next year).

This is the real challenge is for the Leafs.

- spatso

If Korpisalo stays and the Sens sign Cam Talbot for 10M per year the cap hit for the Sens goaltending pair would be $15m.

Good thing for both teams neither of these things are realistic possibilities.

Curious that McDavid went from 64 goals to 32 this year and focused on hitting 100 assists.

Hyman improved from 36 goals to 54.

Hmmm.... 🤔

It's not really that curious when you factor in some people act like they know everything, but actually don't know very much.

Far as MB's topic goes definitely need to address the goaltending. Outside of a trade bringing in a legit starter to pair with Woll, not a lot actually out there. Don't think the Beast is ready near at all either. Far as 3 depth goes Jones was good and fit but Leafs could look at another option in Dreidger who's already been buried in the A and carried Coachella with great numbers. He'd be an upgrade in case of injuries and shouldn't break the bank either.

If you put McDavid, Matthews, and Kucherov on the same line, it would cause a rip in the fabric of spacetime. Matthews would score 200 goals and both McDavid and Kucherov would have 200 assists each.

I hope it's not Jones. He had a surprisingly decent start, but then predictably tailed off.

Driedger hasn't played in the NHL in 2 seasons and just turned 30. The most he ever started was 24 games. He's probably not an answer - but he is likely practically free.

You still have as UFAs Broissoit, Talbot, Stolarz, Kahkoken, Samosonov and DeSmith as realistic backup or 1B targets. I'm not really that impressed with the crop, but no one should be excessively expensive - they also probably don't provide excessive value.

Other names, I think, of note would be Wedgewood, Riemer, Rittich, Raanta and Nedeljkovic. I don't quite think those guys pass through waivers easily if on cheap deals, but I also don't know if they work as a 1B with Woll. Raanta is hurt too much and sucked this year, Riemer's best days are behind him, Nedeljkovic was someone I think I overrated - Carolina sure wasn't sad to lose him and Detroit wasn't sad to have him! We've seen No-Save Dave in action and Wedgewood was well below average in Dallas, of all places.

In that third string role (that Jones filled this year), I think Driedger, Murray, Jones, Lankinen, Copley would all likely pass through waivers.

Let's assume for a moment that this coming season is going to be a transition year and that major roster changes may have to wait until the pending UFA status of Tavares and Marner is resolved.

If some variation of "RUN IT BACK" is going to happen, one more time, and the Leafs basically stand pat with their goalie situation - Woll, 1B/backup, Jones......then what does the crop of UFA goalies look like the following season 2025-2026?

Right now the selection of goalies is not awe-inspiring. Maybe it looks better next year when the Leafs may have a metric poopton more of cap space to work with?

It might, but I suspect the Rangers lock up Shesterkin at a minimum, and whoever Nashville trades Saros to will probably try and extend him . . .

Shesterkin
Ullmark
Saros
Hill
Husso
Allen
Andersen
Vanecek
Georgiev

I'm curious to hear the idea on Knight from the Panthers... they are going Stolli the goalie for the backup...

Knight is 23 and skilled.... Could Tre pry him loose I wonder... esp if Cats lose Reinhart... which a def possibility and others..
