I believe this to be 100% true.
Which then can also be applied to point totals for Hyman and the rest of the Oilers squad every year. Not sure Hyman scores 50 on the East, never mind the numbers McJ and Drysaddle put up.
Wonder if fancy stats demonstrates the same? - underhill14
In head-to-head play the East outscored the West 1617-1558
In head to head games amongst one another the west scored 2448 goals; the east scored 2545.
It's truthfully fairly balanced - the west had three of the most offensive teams in the league in Edmonton, Colorado and Dallas - but the west also had 3 of the four worst offensive teams in Anaheim, San Jose and Seattle.

Either way, makes me want to find out where I can stream Hard Times with Charles Bronson. - Nasty_Duck
That's a good flick. James Colburn was good in that as well.

The Oilers were a powerhouse until they had to face the eastern conference. Goals are a lot harder to come by over there. - shack67 It's why I picked the Panthers in 5. I probably would have run the table in the hockey bracket if I hadn't picked the Islanders to upset the Hurricane's in round 1. The East is definitely the better conference. The Atlantic is the toughest division. It didn't matter who came out of the west, it was going to be the Panthers who were destined to win it, save a slew of injuries.

Eastern Conference is definitely the tougher conference.. League wanted Vegas to win last year to get more fans.. Also, probably not.. Since I just made that up now - PatC80 It's why going forward, the Leafs need to finish 1st in the Atlantic, if they want to get out of the division. It will continue to be Boston, Tampa, Florida and the Leafs for a number of years going forward. Too strong of a division to crack the top 4. A team like Detroit or Buffalo will have to win the second wildcard to get in.

Oilers live (or die) on their Power Play.
They are 0 for 7 so far in the finals and are down 2 games to none.
Oilers may win one game, 2 max but no way they come back to win the cup at this point.
I'm ok with it, I want the Leafs to be the Canadian team that brings the cup back to Canada anyway.

Another good indicator was the Leafs record against the West. They seem to of had little trouble, against the teams out west. They even beat Arizona for a change. It's more than obvious that the Atlantic is by far the strongest division. The top 4 and the next 3 were very competitive. Even the Habs were a decent team. Their biggest issue was playing an unbalanced schedule against the rest of the division. Put them in the Metro and they're battling for the last wildcard.

If Florida wins I don’t care because I don’t know a single fan of theirs. If another Canadian team wins that’s a whole other story. |

 - Cush29 Agreed. You'd never hear the end of it from any other Canadian fanbase. It will take some doing, but the Leafs would probably get to the finals, if they could get out of the division. A more balanced defense and a bit more physical play might get them there, in the next couple of years. One advantage that the Leafs seem to have is a second tier of young players coming through the system right now. The Bruins, Panthers and Lightning have very few draft picks to work with going forward. Leafs had a rookie Knies this year and they also have Cowan pushing for a job. Minten might be ready this year, as well. It doesn't hurt that they have a first rounder in the draft this year. I'm glad that they didn't trade it for a rental. It was quite obvious that they weren't good enough to get past the top teams in the Atlantic this year.

It seems like the west playoffs this year were like the eighties while the east was tight and goals were scarce. But I haven’t checked the numbers, way too lazy for that. |

Ya something was different for sure.
I feel like the west lost it's heavy teams....ie: Ducks, Kings, Vegas, Blues....and the more fancy teams in the West won and did well regular season while on the East the heavy teams won and the fancy teams lost.
Kinda flipped over the past few years. |

THIS year maybe.
But you are forgetting the previous two Cup winners were Colorado and Vegas.
Vegas beat the Panthers in 5 games.

The overall winner of the Cup doesn't determine the overall strength or weakness of the conference. |

Son moving and wife (married two weeks ago) moving to Vancouver. Our daughter is moving to Ohio and that’s not an option. I’ve got nieces who live in Seattle and Kelowna. No other family here. So we’re looking to move to one of the Gulf Islands |

Very nice. Make me think - I really need to think about where to send my kids to school ...this could totally define my retirement. |
