I think Myers will look a lot better as a bottom pairing, 3 mil guy

2 weeks to silly season. There’s going to be some stupid contracts handed out the first few days. Once the dust settles we’ll see who’s still available.

Already appreciative Allvin has some internal structure/self control. Hopefully it holds through that first day

I'm expecting a huge dip next year, I think we make the playoffs, but likely as a wild card team. I don't think this year is replicable, most teams aren't going to be taking us lightly or using their backup goalies against us and putting out their best lineups rather than maybe using us to rest players that might have minor injuries that could easily be played through.

The fact of the matter is, the UFA class isn't that great and most of the big names have either been resigned or will want far too much for us to sign them. We're going to have to hope that JR/PA are good at rummaging through the bargain bin and coming up with gems in the rough.

While I agree they're going to have some level of dip... the bolded part is just crazy. The Canucks were in first place and top of the table for a majority of the season. I don't think any teams were resting players against them or taking them lightly

Most didn't think we were a first place team until after Christmas, we did see a LOT of teams that played their backups at the start of the season, by the time the ASG rolled around, we were playing teams at their best (and the schedule was much harder)

We also played our backup goalies a ton. Demko played 51 games and I'd venture to say teams started their #1 against us more than that. I'd also argue that Demko vs a backup is a bigger difference than most #1's and their backup.

I agree that we're closer to a 100 point team next year barring some miracles in FA or on the trade front. However, we should start seeing substantial help from the farm by the end of next season.

You'd hope to re-sign Zadorov.

Lindholm is gone.

Friedman ruling out Zadorov, Lindholm, Joshua, Tanev in VAN.

Too much money.

This management group made their bed, by overpaying 3rd/4th liner Mikheyev, to almost 5 per, then again overpaid a 2nd line centre/1st line LW, over 11 mill per, at least 3 million of an overpay.
I have some feelings of Benningitis with this group

Trade Pouty, trade Hronek, trade Demko, keep Zadorov and Lindholm.

You have info to back that up, or is that just an opinion?

A bit rich but getting a legit top line winger would be worth it

Trade a mid round pick for negotiating rights, of course.

Wow. Salaries are getting out of control. I remember when the Flames signed Doug Gilmour for $250,000 and people were going crazy. It’s no wonder you have to drop so much dough just to get a decent seat at a game now.

Only if they don't want to wait until July 1st, which seems like from the quote is saying they have the best option on the 1st. If they trade for the rights they can't sign him to an eighth year...

It seems like PA JR like to make deals sooner than later, but who knows?

Agreed. They don't mind paying a little extra to get things set in stone to move onto the next thing. Appreciate that.

They do a good job scouting other leagues to sign players from.. basically the same as a mid round flyer

Fun thought.
And would look good with either JTM or EP40.

Highly doubt he signs with Vancouver tho.

If we do miss out on a homerun with Guentzel, I imagine PA will chase a couple lesser wingers that could still be top 6 (single/double? to keep the baseball metaphor going).

eg Anthony Mantha, Jake Debrusk or Teuvo Teravainen

Speed, 2way and can score.

Debrusk-Miller-Boeser
Teravainen-Pettersson-Garland
(Im not convinced that Garland is top 6 tbh)

#Canucks have signed D Filip Hronek to an eight-year, $58 million extension: 8 years x $7.25 million.

Big piece of business done.
