That depends on how he comes back. If he can get back to where he was, which is possible. He would be a strong 2C on a lot of teams.

I agree. I think some people think he’s terrible because he’s not flashy. Interesting how when his play dropped off because of injury the team really struggled isn’t it? He’s def a top 6 centre when healthy.

come back to what he was in 2018-2019? or even 2020. highly unlikely. add now another surgery that will probably take time to come around.

- was it because of injury?

- when did he have this injury?

- why wasn't he shut down? No need to answer we know.

-did the flyers know?

based off of DB's prior comments they knew he was hurt. DB said they knew he was playing with injuries that were not part of his back issues.

That's just it. I think interest is down. He may not be able to choice where he lands.

Yea, if you’re right, worth a look to see the cost or if there is a hockey trade there

Can we not do the thing where people pretend to be shocked that hockey players play thru injuries and that injuries affect their performance level?

Especially when it's a player who we all know missed games on January 13th and 15th because of an injury.

Laine, only 2 years, I assume his value is low, will their be multiple teams? If not, take a look, he is playing for his career, could be a good trade chip if he plays well.

Raging gaming addiction. And he's gonna piss Torts off from the first time he steps on the ice.

The chances that he turns it all around in a Flyers sweater and becomes worth something in trade is about as close to zero as you can get.

Torts could be the wild card in it for sure, but the guy is playing for his NHL career and will need a new contract, add in his own personal ego, which we know was huge and he will be motivated. Not saying they should but they should look, if the cost is right, consider taking the chance, with an eye on moving him after this season. The team should take chances similar, elite shot, they are going nowhere, roll the dice.

If the Flyers go anywhere near Laine, they're even more incompetent than I thought.

agreed... no chance Laine is coming to Philly to play for Torts. If I recall correctly he bashed Torts in an interview with the Finnish media about not letting him play to his offensive strengths b/c Torts wants everyone to play the same way.

Sounds like selke winner played through a sports hernia and maybe isn’t as cooked as we thought. Makes sense with the drop off. Kinda sad that torts threw him under the bus but maybe they all didn’t know.
- Hextall271

I get it that maybe Couts didn’t report it but the team(coaches and training staff) should’ve noticed the drop off and would undoubtedly notice a change in the gym workouts with a sports hernia and the way he was skating. One would think anyway. And hockey players (with the exception of Ryan Johansen apparently) do everything they can to play through injuries. It really raises many more questions than it answers. If he was that hurt and didn’t report it to the point where he was a detriment to the team… is that captain material? Or allowed it to apparently cause some drama in the locker room because he was benched… oh Captain my Captain? Is the training staff good enough to flag a slight change in his skating and workouts and address it? Or did everyone know, including Torts, but the lure of the playoffs was so enticing they played it off in the public as just bad performance?

disagree, not to at least inquire would be malpractice. You have to look to see if it is worth it, if Bill is right, that there will not be a lot of interest, you look. What would it look like, not sure, but can ask for them to take on a player like RR, if you were in the sell Coots category, maybe Peterson, hard to say with how far Laine has fell. My guess is someone will take a chance on Laine, making it cost prohibitive for the Flyers but he has 2 years left and is 26, playing for his career and has an elite shot.

Has a partial no-trade. But right now, apparently, his bigger goal is get out of Columbus.

Goodness, if Laine at C is the big swing we need to become relevant again, we are in an even worse place than I think we are in.
- coffee junkie

Coming off an injury plagued season both physically and mentally, he is the perfect Flyer. He can join Ellis, RR, and JD on the physically unable to perform list

I am in the camp Coots will be healthy and next season will play closer to his 1st half of the season, than the 2nd. That, and if they don't trade TK, leaves us back on the bubble, assuming kids with another small step.

He averaged under18 min per game his lowest in over 10 yrs. Do you really believe if he played 16 min per game he would have had a better season.?? Couts results is not on Torts and I am not a Torts defender. Couts is slow and the NHL is a speed game. Couts is a quality 3C no longer a top 6 player( on a contending team)
- hfc355

Agreed, except he is making almost $8MM until the new millennium, and therein lies the rub with most Flyers. Just about everyone, not on an ELC, is making too much for too long

I’m curious how “little” the “little sports hernia surgery” really was. We’ve seen it with several Flyers over the last few years and they all take significant time to recover fully from it. Giroux and Ghost both said it was nearly 2 years before they felt 100%. Hayes struggled a bit after his and then had multiple issues arise trying to play early. I just see more issues piling up with him.

DB on Couts in March on the Snow the Goalie podcast:

""Early on, we were asking a lot of him. He was playing on the powerplay. He was facing all the top lines. He was first on the penalty kill. Sean was really beat up, too. If you remember, you go back to earlier in the season, Sean was missing some practices here and there," Briere explained. "It wasn't just to recuperate from playing 22 minutes [a game], he was really banged up. I think at one point, he had five different injuries that he was dealing with, and he was still playing."

The player has been on a downward trajectory for years. Known as a mal-content. Reputation for being a lazy player. Is now in the League player assistance program for some reason. Has two years left on his contract at 8.7M a year. Even if they retain, he would be playing for a coach he has already butted heads with. Hard pass.
