Why you ask would SJ claim him rather then wait till he is bought out? If he is bought out then Goodrow has full control of where he chooses to play and if he doesnt want to play in SJ then he wont. If he is claimed by SJ he has no option but to go there - hfc355
That'll teach him to sign with NYR |

Well first off, the question that must be asked is, why would any team in full rebuild mode want Goodrow? Why would any of the other bottom, non playoff teams want Goodrow? If any of the playoff teams want him, why not wait till he is then bought out and then resign him?
There are always phone calls made behind the scenes about whether a player wants to play somewhere.
People could be looking way too much into this, the Rangers placed Goodrow on waivers with the hope someone might grab him but with the belief that the Cup finals could have been over last night and they just want to buy him out sooner rather than later giving him the chance to sign with another team before the other free agents hit the market on July 1st. |

We aren’t making stuff up. It is being reported by mollie walker and Larry Brooks. Think they have more inside sources than most of us do lol |

Young teams always look for some sort of veteran leadership to guide the rookies and younger players while they develop. |

Are you sure? I'm not seeing anything. Even saw an article from 6 hours ago saying talks have stalled. |

It's being tweeted by the likes of Frank Seravelli & Pierre LeBrun. Seems legit |

Markstrom to the Devils. In return Calgary gets 23 year old Dman Kevin Bahl and a 1st round pick in 2025 |

Horribly underwhelming return for Calgary even if he is making $6 mil per each of the next two seasons |

Big time disagree on that one. Goalies never get traded for very much, historically. I don't think that's a bad return given the fact that, I think, the last goaltender that was traded for a 1st rounder was Ryan Miller
edit: and even that trade was a larger deal than just the player/pick |

He has two years left on his deal and not at a ridiculous cap hit. New Jersey is desperate for a goalie, and unless Ullmark went there, who else were they getting? You disagree, all good, I just think the return was underwhelming. |

I thought it was a pretty fair trade. Markstrom is a good goalie but the Devils defense has a long way to go, I don't think he steps in and immediately fixes all their issues.
I don't think Calgary was ever going to get close to getting the 10th overall pick. Goalies never get traded for a large return and are so volatile from year to year. Not to mention Markstrom has a full NMC so their options were probably severely limited. They did a decent job getting a 1st and a serviceable 4/5 defenseman. |

Somewhat. Markstrom is 34. Not really a young lad. We've seen goalies regress around that age or very shortly thereafter. Not saying it's going to happen here, but...never know with a goalie turning 35 a few months into this coming season. |

Calgary retained slightly more than 30% too. Bringing Markstroms cap hit to around $4M |

Now the return is questionable...That should net you another pick. |
