the reality is that they signed Trouba to that contract in 2019 when the cap was expected to be 100 million by now though
but whatever, they just need to figure out what best to do now - jimbro83
Once I heard Trouba was playing practically on one ankle I really gave him a pass. Idk why Lavy pushed the envelope so much with him.
Boys this is a simple offseason. You get Jonathan Marchessault and you call it a day. The guy had the 7th most EVG goals last season. Proven playoff performer and leader in that lockeroom. He’s gotta be our guy plain and simple. |

Trouba was signed pre pandemic which has a lot to do with his salary being more problematic than it would normally be tho. It’s not something you can just ignore. - Slimtj100
He was overpaid at the time also being an RFA. He was never a 1st pair dman and they gave him first pair dman money at the time. It has just aged even worse bc the cap did not go up and he has regressed each year. Time to move on

Rangers can’t afford him unless a core member is moved. It’s not just this offseason they have to worry about. The new Laf and Igor deals will have to be done next offseason too. |

The thing is tho what they do this year may effect next year and the years after on the cap. I agree with you that he’d be perfect fit, but they can’t mess up Shesty and laf. They be the cornerstones and foundation. They need to get the numbers set for them then they can figure out how to proceed based off that. That’s why imo they go for a 1 yr rental this summer |

that's all semantics, they fired the guy who did it anyway, it doesn't matter anymore

I think at the time they signed him he was a top 4 guy. And that’s what guys were getting paid then. All the teams were throwing money around like crazy, and all the teams are in the same boat now because of covid, and bad contracts look way worse now. It’s just the facts.
You can’t be convinced about anything with Trouba, he wasn’t named captain for the hell of it either lol |

Its not just about assists vs goals. That line has nobody that can drive play 5v5 through the neutral zone and offensive zone like tro, laf or panarin. They need someone who can do that - nyrangers2
Fair point. I mentioned earlier I liked the idea of having Laf play with Zib & Kreider and then slotting Kakko with Panarin and Trocheck. If Kakko can’t do anything with the opportunity, give it to Othmann (if they’re open to him playing RW)

I’m pretty sure Othmann was playing RW in Hartford at least a little bit this year. I thought that was mentioned over the winter months |

Othmann can play both sides. Just see him as a 3rd line player to start. Not sure he cracks the top 6.

I do not think hes an awful captain. Not great. Kind of on par with drury. Worse than mcd and cally imo

It’s dumb to speculate on this. None of us have any clue what the rangers players are doing off the ice, in the Locker rooms, in the offseason, in training to get a sense of how good of a captain they are |

I think the point with Trouba is the reason he got 8 million bucks a year is because they needed a defenseman to build around, and a leader/captain type guy for this core is why they signed him to begin with. It wasn’t willy nilly let’s overpay a guy for the hell of it. I think that gets lost on some people. Time as passed where it’s true he isnt as good, or valuable as he was back then so the contract has aged by now. Hes been under appreciated imo but that comes with the territory if you don’t win, especially in NY. He gave them an intimidation factor that they needed post rebuild. He has had some really good moments in last few years, to be fair |

I read that Jeff Skinner may get bought out. Do you think he would be a good fit if he could be had for a reasonable number? |

No, sir!!!!!
Skinner is the single, biggest under-performer in the last 10 years of the league. Stay clear on this one!!!!!! |

You know he has NEVER played in playoff game. Thats one of the crazier things about a player in recent memory

He is, but chill. Rangers are seeing if anyone is interested. No guarantee he gets bought out. If not claimed and then actually waived, I believe they would be on the hook for the entire remaining salary. |

I think they save a little over $1M in cap if sent to Hartford. |

That's penny ante stuff but better than nothing. My guess is they hope one of the teams on his 15 NTC list - maybe Utah or Buffalo - will claim him, freeing up the full load. If he clears, still might get bought out. |

Talking from a pure likability standpoint. Fans liked McD and Cally. Never really took a liking to Drury |
