I hope they move him... "running it back" would be insane.
Also, haven't been on here in awhile- how does anyone put up with the pop-ups and ads everywhere- it's so gross and annoying. - Liger4
Barkov, about to Captain a team to a Cup, was horrible in the playoffs for his first 9 seasons.
Missed the playoffs 5 out of 9 seasons, only scored 6 playoff goals, 21 playoff points in 26 playoff games.
Only won one series in 9 years.
Sound familiar?
And the past two years? Probably deserves the Conn Smythe more than anybody else considering how he plays at both ends of the rink.
If the Leafs surround their star players with the right support, that can happen for them too. |

So Chynowetth goes to the Jets bench. Vincent out with the Jackets which isnt a surprise at all.
Only question I have is do we need a change with our bench on the goalie coach still?
At this point hope Florida just ends it here tomorrow. Too much debate, speculation, and rumour. The cone of silence had been pretty impressive given its Marner, Tavares etc etc. sooner the season is over and this is sorted the better really. There really isnt going to be any way to avoid fan dissapointment at this point. Sooner can just rip the band aid off the better. - Roadrunner75
I sincerely hope Edmonton wins at least one more. I have a friend who's a lifelong Oiler fan (so it's not like he hasn't seen them win a cup and make it to the finals before this), but he has flown out to Edmonton to experience the whole atmosphere.
He's additionally fortunate that his brother-in-law's brother-in-law (I believe that's how that works) has a box - so while he isn't giving up any room for game 6, should there be one, he is giving him a couple seats for the indoor viewing at tomorrow's game.
If there's a game 6, he's really looking forward to just being in the throng of people.
That would be pretty cool.

The Panthers are 95% likely to win and as a team, they deserve it. But as a franchise, it's a disgrace Sunrise, Florida is about to get a Cup parade.
Have to hope McDavid just becomes unstoppable and does the impossible.

Marner will resign $12.5 x 8 = $100M. Because no team will give him $14.28 x 7.
Best he will get on open market is $13 x 7= $91M. If he is smart his team will see the wisdom of taking $95-$100M over 8 years to stay and win with his home town team
Tavares will have to take $6/yr or less to stay with the team
In 2019-20, the salary of big 4 took up 49.64% of the cap
In 2025-26, the salary of big 4 will take up 47.01% of the cap (assuming cap will be $92 mil). - Turnitaround You really want to run it back eh? They can make up 38 percent of the cap, they need to make a change !!!
im a JT fan and I would not pay him anywhere close to 6 at this point. If anyone is going to take a discount to try and win with hometown team, its him - drexel Agree. JT can buy a country pj's for a lifetime. He can take five years 23mill, that's an even 1 hundred mill over his time in Toronto
Also, anyone saying GMs around the NHL want to give Mitch over 11M need to give their head a shake. This is not pasta, kane, kucherov, or Rantanen. In the playoffs he's Panarin or Burakovsky level. Marner is worth nine-ten mill a year |

Heard interesting comment about US broadcast networks finishing off plans changing broadcast scheduling and promotion styles. They want to focus on NHL star players rather than on traditional tv markets.
Small market Kansas City wins Superbowl with a record number of viewers. This is their starting point in working towards a regular season star centred tv package.
Hard to convince fans they should watch McDavid and Barkov square off in finals when they received so little out of market attention during the regular season. Imagine how shocking it is for some casual NHL tv fans to discover that Panarin is not on the top of anyone's MVP list.
Let's see. Watch for more Edmonton weeknd home games scheduled as afternoon and 5:00 pm (mountain time) starts.

Same and I don't want to see Marner at any number over and above what Nylander got but I know I'm likely to be dissapointed. - Cush29
Jt just scored 65pts and almost 30goals and hes only 33, soon to he 34.
He'll be in the 4 - 6m per range imo |

12.5 is too much.
He should be making Willy money, especially if he expects an NMC thrown in.
Pastrnak makes 11.5 and he's better than Marner. - Nasty_Duck
if you go by the same cap % when signed. Marner would be 12mil

I have a daughter playing u13 HL and a son playing u15 HL - coaching both.
Girls are 9-0 so far this year including going 4-0 with a +53 run differential in the mid-season tournament. They are absolutely dominating this year.
Boys on the other hand are 0-3 and not showing a lot of promise. I'm worried it's going to be a long season for them.
Baseball season is a busy time.

Hello, they canโt afford support!! The core eats too much cap to bring in decent support!! |

This core group cannot win. They've tried to surround the core with different players every year.
It does not work because IT IS THE CORE that is the problem. They are all good players but together they DON'T WIN.
How many (frank)ing times do you have to see it?? |

thats not how I would word it.
I dont want the leafs to pay 12.5 or have to pay that.
I think its a fine number for a ~100 point player.
It would just be nice to feel like the Leafs didnt have to pay the absolute max on every core player. leave a little room to try and improve the rest of the team. we have seen how it works when the core gets paid top $$

Offer him Nylander's exact contract. Not a penny more.

They should NOT offer him the Nylander contact. The core does not win. Resigning Marner turns this team into the San Jose Sharks - a good team that cannot win. I'll say it again - how much evidence do you need to see this core cannot win? |

Not to mention the contract will be based on the middle of it, not the beginning.
So where will the cap be in 5 years is the question. |
