If he keeps progressing like he did last year, that's a steal.

it always amazes me that in some instances you're willing to be extra patient and give the benefit of the doubt while in others your mind is basically already made up from the get-go lol...

anyway in Ylonen's case I don't remember watching him on the habs and being impressed with either a play he did or with a particular aspect of his game. it could be a matter of fitting in as you're alluding to but he'll be 25 in october, and I don't see him as becoming all of a sudden an efficient NHL player that can get noticed at times for the right reasons. if he scores 20 goals with TB then I'll really (frank)ing hate his guts.

and that's awesome news for Slaf, he deserves it, exciting times for him and the habs moving forward.

yeah, when it comes to higher-end talent teams won't wait for the player to put up numbers before signing them long-term.

the habs could've made a bridge-type deal and sign him after that on a longer term but you usually end up dishing out much more money that way.

to your 1st point, it always depends on the talent of the kid. if I see potential I'll be very patient. if not, why lose any time? (see Farrell per example)

Ylonen was never going to move the needle here in Montreal ... he excels at nothing in particular. He's the very definition of MEH!

Bottom 6 forward, easily replaceable ... I'd rather take a chance on another youngster.

agreed, as a bottom 6 he doesn't bring anything special.
but I still think he could eventually surprise and play top6 somewhere. talent wise (skating, passing, shooting) he has the tools. he just needs a motor! lol

being the eternal optimist that I am I always try to make an effort and see the potential, but in this case I simply don't understand on what basis you could see that happening, there's simply nothing to suggest he could play a top 6 role in the NHL imho.
