being the eternal optimist that I am I always try to make an effort and see the potential, but in this case I simply don't understand on what basis you could see that happening, there's simply nothing to suggest he could play a top 6 role in the NHL imho.
- Pat1993

maybe I saw him play a bit more often than you did. maybe a coach somewhere will give him a chance for more than 2 games in a top6 role.
or maybe not. not that I care.
time will tell

Slaf could be a really big steal in 4 years looking back. Worth the risk.

Yeah, I like the contract ... it fits within the salary structure HuGo have put in place.

Some bad contracts still need to be moved out but we're getting there ... Bergy left us with a mess.

Looks like Hughes did what he could to bring in a top-6. Summer isn’t over and he has young Ds he can trade.

yeah, like I was thinking, he wants help upfront but for 1 or 2 years only. better chance to get that via a trade than on the UFA market. no problemo.

the habs are probably playing something like 8 pre-season games again before that, which is way too (frank)ing many, but I get why they're doing it... they can sell tickets at almost the same rates as for a regular season game and people will still buy them, the demand is always there.

Hughes confirmed that Marchessault came very close to signing in MTL but it didn't happen because the habs had very specific parameters going in these negotiations and there was simply too much term being asked to their liking.

they tried, but in the end they stuck to their plan and did the right thing at this point in time, imho.

In terms of where they are at now, I didn't see him as a fit for either side. For Montreal, he pushes a guy down the line up who you want to see develop. For marchessault as well, who probably still wants to compete right now and not down the line.
