I'm ok with them using a player of value to move up, but if that means using #12 just to move up a few spots then that better be a sure shot they are getting.

I understand the Flyers are not going to get a top 10 for any of those players alone (probably a mid to late 1st at best), but at this point I don't trust the scouting department to make those decisions to separate the great from the good. The Flyers need to be put in a position that drafts a no-brainer.

- Glak18

If the scouting department can’t make good picks then all of this is hopeless. No matter what they do; trade up, trade down, or stand pat, they’re screwed. There are rarely ever no-brainers beyond the top 1-3 or so picks depending on the draft.

Cale Makar was not a guaranteed #1D. If he was he’d have gone 1st overall. There were questions about his size and the level of competition he was playing against. Meanwhile Nolan Patrick was a no-brainer that year at 2. 23 teams passed on Pastranak, VAN passed on him twice. The vaunted Dallas stars scouting staff passed on him.

The Flyers staying at 12 means they may pick between Eiserman, Iginla, or Sennecke. None of those players are sure things. Many draft evaluations say that as many as 5 defenseman in this coming draft have 1D potential. None of them are guarantees, just like Makar wasn’t a guarantee.

If you want to believe the reports that came out years after, the Flyers scouts actually preferred Heiskanen and Makar to Patrick and it was Hextall who chose him instead. That would indicate they’re better than we might think.

If they can move up while keeping 12, cool, maybe Catton or Helenius falls to them at 12 while getting a D with the higher pick. But if moving 12 is the only way to move up, you have to do it.

Don't forget Ellis. His contract can always be traded and he would also come off the books in 3 years.

Risto will also be gone in 3 years

- WhiskeyMan

That is perfect for flyer only 2-3 years away window. (Scenario).

The Phantoms had a good year and the younger players do seem like they are developing. In the end, the latter is the most important aspect of an AHL team, i.e. are the players developing.

Replacing a Kuzie with a guy who has an even longer contract and an equally huge drop in production is pretty funny.

Ahhh the Caps. Subtraction by addition. PDL will be the straw that stirs the drink in DC. 😂

Edit: PLD. Types too fast but I kinda like PDL!

- they had a good year? how so? 6th place in a 8 team division.

- the 2 leading scorers are not ahl prospects.

- what young players seem like they are developing? Zayde wisdom? Desnoyers? They wont make room for Ginning or Attard, those 2?

Ovi will retire as a Cap, will it be after he breaks the scoring record or when his contract ends?

They wouldn't be busy signing Euro UFAs if there was anything worth promoting in the AHL.

valid point as well. No issue with euro vets.

Though can't they ever sign one who has some offensive potential? those 2 they signed none it appears.

Does anybody think the new rules if college being able to pay players will effect future drafts? Will players come early out of college if they can be paid to play in college?

Desnoyers took a massive step backward. Wisdom never seemed to improve, and yes he was injured.
Maybe Tuomaala seems like he may be a player.

I don’t think it’ll matter in that regard. I don’t see the NIL money being enough to keep them from going pro. Now, it may cause more players to choose college over the CHL.

PLD on his 4th team by age 26, trying to think of a truly great player having a similiar career path. Cannot come up with an example.

Hmmmmm. That could be promising. I know a lot of people here, myself included, covet their draft pick and Pinto. This news is like a lottery ticket; until the drawing we can dream what it would like to have $500 million. 😂
