There has got to be a team out there that is in win now mode that would eat the last couple years of that contract to try and keep thier window open.

Hey if LA was able to find a suitor for Duprois or whatever his name is... then Conny should takers as well

i am not getting my hopes too high with Wolf just yet. But he deserves a good look.

Ideally, they would start the season with a veteran goaltender at the tail end of his career to take some of the pressure off of Wolf. But competition is a good thing, and it's time for one of these guys to carpe diem.

What are some ideas for Conroy to weaponize that cap space?

- DuranDuran

The easy answer is take on bad contracts for sweeteners (see Sean Monahan and a 1st to Montreal). Unfortunately its not that simple but if we can create a roster spot by moving Mange without attaching a sweetener, I would consider taking back Skinner (3 x 9 mil) from Buff provided they were prepared to pay up big on the sweetener.
Mange for Skinner, pick #11 plus?
Korpisalo and pick #25 for futures?

With 5 years left Kadri would be a tough move, return would be meh & he would have more value mentoring the wave of young guys that will be hitting our lineup. Ditto for Huberdeau. We're going to need to hit the cap floor the way things are going

Conroy was reported saying contract talks with Kyllington are progressing, just takes time & he has lots on his plate. So I think that will get done. Probably term is whats holding that up.

I do like what the boys are saying on the Backburner that now is the time to trade Ras. He's a RHS #2 or #3, great cap hit for 2 more years would be in high demand. Will be 30 in 2 years & will want to get market paid at that time. Doesnt fit Flames timeline & if a team like Ottawa is hunting for a RHD then that #7 would be the price tag & if they dont want to pay it, fine, Flames either get a great return or keep him.
Im thinking thats the call as well.

- Kevin R

This would signal a full tear down but I would support that deal.
Ras will never have a higher trade value than he does today!

Maybe we can get our 1st back by taking Gallagher or Anderson back. Montreal said to be in on Laine so they need to move salary. They might be able to throw in one of their young D prospects as well.
I like the Buffalo idea.
I’m sure with the extra cap space we’ll see some sort of deal.

Great deal conny.

Many seemed disappointed.

Wr got rid of a mid 30s.goalie which we signed via FA for a big, young, promising D that played all 82 games last year and another 1st rounder. The future is getting brighter. Way to go conroy. Time for the wolf. Now let's tank and get McKenna. Future is bright.

This feels like the perfect opportunity for Flames and Oilers fans to set aside our differences and come together to cheer a Canadian team to the ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup.

Too long has the Cup been won by an American team. For 31 years we've been waiting to bring the Cup home.

What say you brothers, shall we join forces for just a few days and bring Lord Stanley back to it's rightful place?

- Oildrum

No real Flames fan would ever cheer for the Oilers and I’d expect the same from Oiler fans. Besides Edmonton isn’t really part of Canada.

They have well over 9 million in cap space and don't need to sign anyone. They have no need to pay to get rid of someone.

They’ve got 19 of 23 signed and Dach is on the ir for 3.5. They may fill in with entry level contracts but they’ve shown interest in Laine who is 8 mil +.
Taking 3 years of Gallagar or Anderson would cost more than a 1st.

Supposedly, Montreal is high on Pelletier. We could send him as part. Gallagher is an Alberta boy I believe.

I got thinking that maybe St. Loius could find some magic with Huberdeau but then I had another look at his contract. What a horrible signing that was.

There's zero chance they're paying even a first to make cap space for Laine even if they needed space. He's not worth that. There isn't an issue though. I forgot about Price. Unless he's playing next year, they'll have over 19 million in cap space including Dach's salary.

There is a few messages I wanted to quote but don't care to figure out how to quote multiple in one post but:

Ras is not worth a high first in the offseason. As much as good RHD are slightly overvalued, Ras is good but not great.

His worth is not at its highest, that was 2 seasons ago. Could change by deadline day this coming season tho.

Montreal has roughly 20.6M in cap for next year. Price is LTIR and doesn't count towards their opening day.

Mangiapane is a cap dump at this point and his value isn't worth much less than Skinner's. Not a high first in differential. A 3rd ish IMO, not a high first.

Flames have 6 D guys on NHL contracts next year before Kylington and minor league advancements (not gonna count Okhutiuk).

Bahl was a big piece that NJ wanted in the Taylor Hall deal. He may be a diamond in the rough, or may already be a bust as the 55th oa guy from his draft.

This trade has please Edward's written all over it. Please Edward's in getting a young NHL player with upside in Bahl, a hopefully decent pick in the 1st for management. Murray wants this team to be cup contenders for opening season of the new rink to sell it out every night that year at max seat price. They probably could have got more IF they waited it out a bit and let the Saros and Ulmark situations set the market. Don't think they were ever getting a Nemec, 1st, plus return many fans were coveting, but they could have got more than what they did unless Conroy's hands where tied from somewhere (ownership/Marky). It's not a great return, but it's also not the expected return, nor a horrible return. Both Nash and Bos are cursing Conroy for setting the market at that level, but They may be laughing at the end when the last team standing who wants a G upgrade is left having to pay or be left in the dark.

Oh, and where are all the guys who said other teams needed to pay a premium for what Conroy was selling or they'd be left in the dust? Flames have grabbed some decent picks and prospects, but nothing premium like I saw the demand for.

28 year old Mange 1 x 5.8 mil
32 year old Skinner 3 x 9 million
They are similar players today but the variance in salary owed is 21.2 mil!
A 21.2 mil CAP dump is worth the #10 pick plus IMO

Seen a mock trade today.....Mitch Marner for Rasmus Andersson and Nazem Kadri.

Dollars are a bit of a savings but could and would he sign a 3 year deal possibly? Would he even come here would the Flames do it? Thoughts?
