Today's NY Post:
"I recognize that it is essentially impossible to quantify the meaning of having a franchise goaltender. I recognize that there have been big-time teams recently who seem to always have the second-best goaltender in a playoff series, such as Toronto and Carolina. I recognize that not having a reliable goaltender can undermine a franchise for years.

But I think as Drury enters into negotiations with Igor Shesterkin on an extension, this has to be part of the calculus from management’s perspective:

If Shesterkin comes in at $11M per year, which would break Carey Price’s $10.5M AAV record for goaltenders, the Rangers will be committed to just under $45.767M on the cap for five players — Shesterkin, Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Adam Fox and Vincent Trocheck.

That does not factor in the approximate combined $15M that would be going to Alexis Lafreniere and K’Andre Miller on their next contracts. So that would be about $60.767M for seven players, leaving about $31.2M on a projected $92M cap to fill 15 spots on the roster that is going to be in Stanley Cup mode.

The question for Drury is whether the Rangers could obtain a Cup-worthy goaltender for $5M or less and use the leftover $6.5M to bolster the roster with another couple of players.

Maybe for the first time in the hard-cap era, the Blueshirts wouldn’t be so goaltender-centric. It’s just a thought."

Have to strongly under if these little nuggets and whispers are being fed from the Rangers to Brooks...

This will be the defining question/answer for the next decade. Only Panarins contract expires in 2 years but I'm sure he will be extended so the big question is, how much faith does Drury have in this group? We will soon see.

Winning the Stanley Cup is hard. A lot of things need to happen. You need luck at the right time. Just because you don't win, doesn't mean you don't know how to win.

Or, McDavid loses tonight and he gets fed up with living/playing in Edmonton so he signs with the NYR when his contract is up. We let Panarin walk

So tonight's loser of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final will lose because they didn't know how to win?

its incredible that Tom forces us to have these semantics conversations, holy crap

I don't know why we just can't talk draft, trades and free agency like a normal hockey blog

I also saw Brooks brought up the idea of trading #30 overall and Kakko to move up in the draft which I would absolutely be all for

I would love if we could get inside the top 15. But I'm guessing it'll likely be a 15-23 pick.

At the end of the day, there just may not be room for Kakko if we expect Othamnn on the roster next year. Would be a shame to have Othmann here playing 4th line minutes with Brodzinski

yeah, Othmann needs a legit shot, and that's another prospect going from LW to RW

Are you selling too low in that case? If 30 and Kakko get you to let's say 15, is that spread worth Kakko?

I mean, we can and we do. Tom usually isn't too far off topic, it's just that his ideas of what should be done are VERY different than what most people think could/should happen. That's where most of the hang-ups are.

this whole theory that we "shouldn't even bother talkin about making moves because the Rangers will always lose" is just so annoying

I'd have to see that actually happen (and what they use the pick on) before I can analyze it

This draft sucks though. If we are trading Kakko and a 1st I want a player

I was also thinking that they could trade down from #30 and get 2 second rounders

Can't see us not having a pick in the first round. I'm sure there was some truth to Dolan wanting the Rangers to keep their pick to make a show at the Sphere.

Or trade Kakko and a 1st for a higher 1st next year maybe. Having two first rounders in a better draft could open up huge trade potential

I still remember like 6-7 years ago when the rangers were close to trading for Jordan Staal on the draft floor from the pens

I want craziness like that

I think if someone they view as top 10 falls into the teens, they will try and trade up. If not, I would be fine with trading down to get more picks
