Why does it seem like I've read all these posts before? Like for the last several years?
The only ones that seem new are the ones hoping for a bounce back year from Sorokin. Otherwise, its like 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 all over again and again.
I'm not blaming you guys , its just the same old story with this team and Lou.

In a different situation, I think it's a no-brainer to re-sign him...been here his whole career, good in all zones, and is scoring tons of goals now. But, watching the playoffs this year, I don't think the Isles were on the level of most of the teams. They need to change things up, and Nelson would probably bring back a decent haul for a team that doesn't have a ton of tradable assets.

For the record, though, I don't think that's where Lou is at. I think he'll get re-signed.

Love Nelson but don’t agree. For once sell high on a player which to me is exactly what this team needs. The last part I 100% agree with Lou will resign him.

Correct that’s why I laugh at the posts thinking something extraordinary is going to happen. Who knows maybe this is THAT year but if I were a betting man it’ll be more of “I believe in this group”.

I blame the posters here. Lou would move in a different direction if we didn't criticize him so much.

It is what it is. Lou is who he is. I'd like to see a shake up, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

It all comes down to ownership. Just ask the cowboy fans. I'm not saying the Isles have bad owners, but they are ultimately in control of the franchise.

Lou set the Isles up for mediocrity (or worse) for the next few years. If they weren't okay with that he would be gone.

Owners obviously have a lot of faith in Lou. I get it and I thank the guy for what he did for the franchise BUT just like all GM’s they have a shelf life. Lou’s expired a couple of years ago imo. If he keeps going on this same path it won’t only be a few years of mediocrity this team will be set up for.

Holland was let go. Maybe he’s brought on as Lou’s successor??

I'm not impressed with the Islanders owners. Ledecky especially seems like he is working for Lou and not the other way around. I do not need owners to pick the coach or the players, but they need to identify when the team is not going down the right path and make changes. Ledecky seems like a nice guy, but not serious enough.

Holland seems to be a polarizing GM. I've heard comments he gets more credit for the Wings then deserved.

I don’t have an opinion. I just know no one is exempt from Father Time and Lou is approaching “that age”. Just ask the big guy Joey B

Anyone else think it was weird that Roberto Luongo was eating out of the cup as if he was the netminder who won it? Shouldn’t the players get the cup first? I dunno I thought it was a loser move 🤷🏻‍♂️

they all get their time with it and considering he is beloved in that organization and fan base, it makes perfect sense to me

No denying he was their cornerstone, but, he retired 5 years ago. The unwritten rule was you don’t touch the cup unless you won it. Not trying to be a d1ck, but he never dressed once and he’s celebrating before the guys who did. Just my opinion

I'd be willing to bet that the owners have stuck with Lou because they have debt to pay off from building the arena and they want the team as competitive as possible in an effort to keep attendance up, even at the expense of the not-too-distant future. I don't think Lou is the only one responsible for the way they operate.

Keith Tkachuk was lifting the Cup on the ice too and he never got one. I don't really care who touches the thing and I feel like that unwritten rule really applies more to active players than retired ones. The entire front office gets to hoist it and that's where Luongo works so I don't see that as all that weird. Maybe a little odd he got a day with it so soon, but he's a legend in that organization so it's not completely off the reservation.

It would have been very strange if Brady Tkachuk picked it up though.

What I thought was absolutely ridiculous was last year when someone (I think Martinez) handed Jonathan Quick, who was Vegas' 3rd string goalie and played zero playoff games in addition to already having won two as a starter with LA, before Adin Hill got it. I thought that was insane. Would've been one thing if he was an aging vet who never got one...but that seemed a little disrespectful to Hill who was a big part of that championship.

Any wacky predictions for today?

Lou trades for McGroarty and an extended Ehlers for 20th overall, 54th overall, Iskhakov and Pulock? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pending what a hypothetical Ehlers extension would look like, yes. If it's some 7 year overpriced disaster of a contract then no. I honestly don't think it'd be enough to land both of them. But I'd do a straight up swap of 20th for McGroarty all day, again...assuming he signs now and doesn't become a flight risk.

I have to think Ehlers would get 7 years. I would just do the 20th for McGroarty. I still want to give a legit shot to Iskhakov. He will help with the SO alone. I just hope the Rangers do not get him. I cannot believe there is talk the Rangers are interested in Kane again.

I think the interest between Kane and the Rangers is mutual. I'd bet on that one happening and it being something like a 3 year deal.

I assume Ehlers will get 7 or 8 years (the latter needing to be a sign and trade) from anyone, it's really the money that matters. I have my doubts about his health and, even though he's a very good player, I don't know that I see him being worth more the $7M-$7.5M/year.

Would be a real tough look for Lou to trade Pulock the weekend of his wedding though

Kane is a PP player and the Rangers do not need help in that area. He is not the type of player that gets the Rangers past Florida or other elite team.

I do not want Ehlers at all.
