Homer’s advantage was they were in excellent cap shape in the summer of ‘07. That allowed him to acquire Timonen, Hartnell, Briere, Smith, and Lupul that summer. Flyers have never been in such great shape again. Fletcher had to make horrible moves like the Ghost trade to force open cap space to make more bad moves. At this point Briere hasn’t had the cap space to make moves in FA. If they can avoid temptation and remain patient they’ll start to finally be in good shape in 2 years.

This season and next are so important for the Flyers. Continue to shed salary and add assets is what they should be doing.

I do not believe for one second they will be patient over the next two years. Laughton and TK are easily traded if they want to.

It's exciting when the games mean something.

I recall, seems like over a decade ago, getting pumped for Flyer games.

I stopped watching when they got boring.

A sports team should at least entertain.

So, extra off day in SCF.

No hockey, so I watched Slap Shot.

Greatest sports movie ever made.

David Scott, chairman and chief executive officer of Comcast Spectacor, in a Tuesday news conference following Hextall's firing. "Do I think we can do better as a team now? Not two years or three years from now, but now? I think the answer is yes."

The Flyers have more than $7 million in available cap space and the ninth-best prospect pipeline in the NHL, according to ESPN's Chris Peters. Clearly, ownership felt it was time to leverage those assets to improve the Flyers now.

Action for Bias. Holmgren spent the Flyers into salary cap hell. It took Hextall years to clean it up and when it finally was, Holmgren and the Flyers went back to the Holmgren method with Fletch.
