Puleeez a sign and trade. Leafs sign him and I’m pulling off my Gilmour nametag and sewing it to the Utah jersey! Enough already! Franking enough!

And you just know we're going to get bent over too. Max deal, max dollars, max mediocrity. Isn't this fun being a Leafs fan?

What world are you living in? He's 100% getting a raise. It'll be like 11.5x8 or something terrible, you watch.

That's about right on. Unfortunately too late, but Nylander too IMO.

$10M max.

Fantasy Land.

Of course he's getting a raise which is exactly why I would prefer him traded. He's currently a million overpaid if you ask me. Next deal is going to suck even harder.

Not with the cap trajectory: it's going up and up and up, so his 11.5x8 will look like a "bargain", or so they will say... for now.

$11.5? So nothing more than a $600K raise for his first UFA contract?

Add at least another million and that’s where it starts.

Let me ask the Leafs nation something : If there was no salary cap, would you still want to trade Marner?

For me, the answer is no. I'd keep him, but find the right linemates to balance his play style.

Unrelated : I peeked into the Panthers thread. There are Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver fans in there chirping. Not a Leafs, Habs, or Ottawa fan to be seen. It's interesting from an anthropological perspective. It seems to be geographic.

Yeah, who knows. Was thinking max term though. Could be 12.5 or more.

It's about time that the word "No" enters the lexicon. The Leafs will never be successful if they continue this same model. They'll have wasted Matthews prime years, pi$$ing around with Marner and his dad. Time to buck up and tell him that he's only getting $9.5M X 8. If he doesn't like it, tell him to put a list of teams together that he would be inclined to join. If he bocks and plays out his contract, he gets 4th line minutes. No time to screw around here.

Well to be fair even at $12.5 million he’ll likely be right around 10% of the cap based on it rising about $4.5 a year.

$4.5 x 8 = $36 million + $88 million = $124 million

Be the right fit from his agent’s perspective lol

Fantasy. If he plays out his contract he’ll be treated like Sundin was when he said no. Still got used in a primary role and that’s what will happen with Marner.

Don’t do something like that and the other stars available in free agency would say no, any stars with NTCs would have the leafs on their lists as a no. Nobody with top end talent would want to come to Toronto if they get known for (frank)ing over a star player.

No way. The problem is and always has been - too much cap tied up in 4 forwards that all play the same way. One at the very least needs to go. Willy just signed at a solid price (with cap trending up) for a scoring winger and you don’t trade 34 ever. So JT/Marner. I like JT. Not at this cost anymore but I do like him. Keep around hope he signs discount and move to wing on L2 or 3C.

What do you think the 4th line minutes would do? Honest question.

JT as a second line winger I like…. Well… a cheap JT lol. Seriously tho, having a faceoff guru on the wing is handy as hell.

The Vancouver fans go to whatever blog has the current losing team. How that fan base can troll anyone amazes me.

Ya man - have him take draws then slide over…also on one of the PP units too. If injury happens to 2C he moves on….prvided buds could score a guy like Lindholm or honestly a bit of a stretch offensively to be a 2C but good all around would be Stephenson. Playing with JT/Willy he wouldn’t need to carry the offensive load you know
