Leaf fans who think oilers fans will appreciate their congratulations are lunatics… at least panthers fans would be thankful of them - Dozzer
What leafs fans would think that.
Who the (frank) cares if either teams fans would "appreciate" anything
We arent (frank)ing children....i dont root for a team because i think their fans would appreciate it
I dont root against a team because I think their fans wouldn't appreciate my "rootingness".
And how would you know or even care that florida fans would appreciate it?
Oilers have been my 2nd fav team since the great one years.
Although i do like maurice, so woudlnt mind seeing him win a cup as well. |

I figured as much.
Your not wanting another Cdn team to win is not as strong as your dislike for division rival Bruins.

Hyman never scored 30 goals in his career until his 2nd year in Edmonton. His highest goal season in Toronto was 21 and he sucked in the playoffs.
This was why many people didn’t think he was worth what Edmonton gave him - me included. The gamble worked out for the Oilers but I don’t think there was much reason to think he would become the player he has in Edmonton if he had remained a Leaf.

I believe in pace when you're looking at a player's ability - Hyman paced to 24, 34 and 29 goals in his last three years here. I feel that ignoring his capabilities because of COVID shortened seasons is being deliberately myopic. |
|
|
|
I was also under the impression that Hyman was willing to stay in Toronto for $5m - but they just couldn't wouldn't make that money work. I'll admit that I wasn't a huge fan of the term at the time either.
The worst part in that decision was really that they had just seen a year prior what happens when you get too many guys (like Barrie) who don't win the puck battles - and then they walked away from the best puck battler on the team. Ignoring his feats this year, he was still a 30 goal scorer who won battles and disrupted the opposition's defense. That was worth $5m. - Monkeypunk
Never forget they were happy to keep paying Kerfoot 3.5 mil to let Hyman walk at 5. |

I believe saying someone is a “30 goal scorer” means they actually scored 30 sorry if you find that myopic 🤷♂️
Seems odd from a guy obsessed with data I guess you prefer predictive models over factual raw data.
Even using your “on pace for” mentality he was only on pace to get 30 goals in 1 of those 3 years.
Regardless, My point was I don’t believe the Leafs could have reasonably predicted that Hyman would become the player he is right now and as such they didn’t feel he was worth what Edmonton paid him.
I don’t think anyone could have predicted that and I don’t even think Edmonton thought he would become as good as he has been.
He’s a found $20 in a jacket pocket that you thought might be a $10. |

As for the bolded it’s a no, just cheering for them to keep Edmonton from winning lol.. I know my phrasing can be/sometimes is/is bad so my apologies for that.
And I’m not going to ask anyone to hand in a card for their favourite team either… hell don’t even mind fans from other teams.. sat beside one watching outside by the fire pit while he wore the oilers jersey… even my cousin took a job as one of their scouts after selling the spitfires
I’ll be honest, it’s not their behaviour I’m truly afraid of, it’s suffering from never seeing the leafs do it, so it’s all inside of me.
As for the fun, absolutely, this has been very enjoying to watch even into summertime |

I’d rather see the Bruins win than another Canadian team. But the seventh game that’s coming up will be pleasurable either way. I can’t stand tkachuk and Maurice so I won’t be too upset if they lose. |

That's a load of crap.
They cheer for their team so long as the team is still in it. But you act like hockey is over the moment the fav team is out. Not the case at all. There's nothing wrong with wanting one of the remaining teams to win. Or one of the remaining teams to lose.

Sometimes you just love to argue. A guy paces out to 24, 34 and 29 goals in three consecutive years where he played only 71, 51 (out of 70) and 43 (out of 56) games - you can reasonably say that he's capably a 30 goal scorer. That, by the way, is data.
That said, I didn't say they should have predicted he'd be scoring 50. I said that they already knew he was capable of being a 30 goal scorer because he had (all but) done it - happy? That's worth $5m - especially when he brings his worth ethic and board battling abilities to the table. Like realistically when a healthy Zack Hyman scored 27 and 36 in Edmonton - no one was surprised at that.
He has vastly exceeded his $5.5m contract obviously - and while I doubt he would have hit 50 goals with the Leafs, I think the player he was at the time was worth $5m already.
I did like Dubas' approach with many things but he continually underestimated the importance of the role players on a team and figured the stars could all do it without those guys to do the dirty work.
