Bold, but may not be wrong. - Glak18
Big wing> Avg size wing. CHL production over MHL production. As a Demidov believer, maybe my bias hopes this is the logic that makes it happen.

What do you believe Carolina would get back in deal for Necas?
TK still has a year left on his current contract at 5.5 mil and it is already under their current cap number ... moving Laughton opens up 3mil and putting Ellis on LTIR creates the space to sign Necas. Necas's number would depend on a bridge or long term contract. Likely around 7mill on 2/3 years getting him to UFA deal or 8.5 on 5/6 years. - EBPflyer
They have already said a 1st and a good prospect is not enough, it has to be more. That return alone would be amazing for the Flyers for TK. Many think that would be too much for him.

Oh really? This part of the article directly mentions it.
"Philadelphia acquires 11th overall pick; Buffalo acquires Travis Konecny (extended to $8.5 million cap-hit contract over eight years on July 1)" - Hextall271
It clearly says they’re trading TK straight up for the 11th pick. They’re not trading TK & 12 for the 11th pick. So they’re not moving up 1 spot. If this trade was made independently of other moves it would leave the Flyers with picks 11 & 12. So again, not moving up 1 spot. |

I dont think any really knows as this management style is a collaborative effort.
sadly Danny boys vision seems to be that of "jonesy" and torts. I think danny is more of a puppet than a real gm at this time.
he hasnt had to make any hard decisions as of yet. all that he has done has been easy for the most part. - hello it's me 2050

Depends how the team plays and how Torts uses him. With the hype I would want at least 60 points, but it is the Flyers and they know how to stammer production especially when they are losing.

Even if Briere hasn’t had to face any difficult decisions so far, he’s made all the right moves. It doesn’t seem like Kevin Hayes would be an easy sell. I think Danny B got top dollar for Provorov, which led to more assets when Walker was able to be shipped out. Briere took Michkov while 6 other teams passed. Got two assets for Gauthier, one of which was already an NHLer. |

That’s my thing. None of the dmen are surefire. Demidov is. So needing high end talent that’s who I’d go after if trading up. - Stayin alive
So the Flyers would be using the few quality assets they have to move up to select… checks notes…another winger. Doesn’t make sense.
If they move to 7 they need to select Buium or D!ckinson. Then get Catton or Helenius at 11 or 12. Those picks would actually start to fill organizational needs with talent. |

I understand your point about filling organizational needs. However, isn't that potentially a dangerous way to draft in the top 10. Granted, prospect evaluation is an imperfect science. If Demidov evolves into the next Kucherov and Helenius evolves into the next Jokinen, I would venture to guess rhat Helenius would be viewed as the wrong pick. Briere took a big swing last draft. I hope he does it again. I like Helenius and Catton, but I believe Demidov has the best chance to be the best player in this draft outside of Celebrini. Of course, I could be very wrong with that opinion.

Bill, I believe there is a small but very important clarification that needs to be made regarding the Gauther and Rutger McGroarty situations. In both cases, its not that the Fyers or the Jets were unwilling to sign the player to an ELC after their first college season, but that both teams would not guarantee an NHL roster spot to either player. This makes perfect sense to me. NHL roster spots should be earned, not given out like candy. If Rutger McGroarty wants to be in the NHL, sign an ELC and beat out a player already on the roster. Otherwise he can develop in the AHL and then be called up when ready. I think the NHL needs to step in and start fining these players before this gets out of hand. In both cases, I don't think the Flyers or the Jets did anything wrong, yet both teams will have paid a cost; the Jets will hardly get equal value in a trade now that this is out there.
Agreed. However not sure the NHL can control it. Any demand can be made by one party in a negotiation. How can negotiations be controlled?
Something needs to be done or the draft will begin to lose meaning if players begin to more frequently reject their teams. It also is not health for veteran contracts. How does a GM manage the roster with contract commitments in place if you must jam prospects onto the roster? |

People have been pointing out that there's been so much hysteria around the Russian Factor all these years but the guys who've actually left their teams high and dry the most often have been US college players haha.
At the end of the day it just becomes part of the calculus at the draft. If you don't have the situation/roster spot/inclination to throw a college kid in right away to burn a year off the old ELC then maybe draft the CHL kid who doesn't have as much leverage. |

College kids using their leverage, I agree. I do wonder if the Flyers and Jets are less likely to draft college bound prospects in the 1st rd. Briere drafted college bound prospects in the 4th and 6th rd only. Way too early to determine whether a trend. However, a GM would be a fool to not account for the leverage a college prospect can utilize. Basically, if a GM is unwilling to burn a year off the ELC and guarantee a roster spot in the NHL after 1 year in college- BUYER BEWARE. |

To bad the league just couldn’t extend the drafting teams rights another 2-3 years for players who go to college. If the player won’t sign fine play 4 years of college then go play overseas. |

Demidov is not a sure thing though. He’s played almost exclusively against Russian junior competition. That’s some of the concerns teams have. Either way, he’s not getting past Montreal at 5. So the Flyers would need to move into the top 4 to likely get him, that is if Chicago doesn’t take him. It’s not just about the Flyers drafting for need but that the value of the C & D positions far outweigh W. Additionally, the top 5 D in this class have 1D potential. Catton and Helenius are likely high end 2Cs with a small chance at 1C. It’s not as if they’re drafting scrubs to fill needs.
If we wake up Saturday and the Flyers have moved some combo of TK, Farabee, Laughton, 12 to acquire Buium/D!ckinson & Catton/Helenius, I’ll be pumped.
But if we wake up Saturday having moved all of those players for just Demidov, I’ll be concerned. |

So a new rule will now allow CHL players to play NCAA. I haven’t seen specifics but I wonder how that’ll play into this situation. |

On the other hand, if the player is good enough they can still trade the rights to get value back and they do get compensation if they stay the full 4 years in school.

Goes into the interview process as well. Teams get plenty of direct access to the prospects, their reps, their families, their coaches... if they can't sniff out the dudes who are a little more entitled/selfish/assertive who may be problematic then they need to work on their risk assessment and evaluation systems. |

They already hold college players' rights for 2-years or more longer than CHL kids. |

I would think not, it would be very hypocritical for the Flyers to get McGroarty. I feel bad for the Jets because they will probably have to cave to the player versus trading him for pennies on the dollar. - jd250
If McGroarty's demand is to be on the roster right away, it won't work here either. The Flyers want to MANAGE their club, for good or bad. And there's bad, evidenced by everyone who has commented here that Torts mutes offense due to his insistence on playing defensively.
Look at what happened to the Oilers this playoff run? Are they in position to win it all because of all offense? Their offense came from changing their system to play more defensively. So there's something to it.
I could go on. We're seeing the Oilers break the Panther's forecheck due to using stretch passes. Isn't THAT what Flyers did this year to take the pressure off their back end? Isn't that what led to the short handed goals? The odd man rushes? This approach was responsible for 2 Flyers wins against the Panthers. I am not supportive of players coming in and making demands on when they should play, what system etc. etc. That is the coach's call. It's working for Knobloch. Otherwise why do we need coaches?
