thats a nice contact from the lanch
- hehateme

I hate to say it, but if he could be had at that price, it makes you wonder if we should have kept him for 3C. I suspect we are going to be paying that when all is said and done. I suppose it depends on what Byram turns into.

Which is why saying Adams is a good drafter is premature
- sbroads24

I have not called him a good drafter. At this premature moment he(and his staff) looks to have done some solid work. And also some mistakes all of which look to be in the second round ironically.

Its also premature to call Quinn a whiff cause he's gone through some injuries.

He had the biggest turn around in-season. Once he was away from EJ
- DirtyDan

imagine that. i wont blame ej for his bad play, but moving away also helped.

clifton was ass for a few months, there's no denying that. makes it that much more impressive he finished the season a net positive.

Clif had the worst +/- on the team for the whole first half IIRC.

Nice little deal for Casey. Leaves room for a nice UFA deal at 28.

Dylan DeMelo signed 4x4.9. Mid pairing defensive defenseman, 31 years old. Matt Roy is getting more.

Andrew Mangipane would be nice if we get Skinner out of here.

Played well with Cozens at the worlds

Cozens had a strong worlds and tore it up two years ago. Peterka same last year. Mangiamagic to Buffalo could be nice buy low.

Wonder if byram gets more from the Sabres

I’m guessing he’s gonna fit in around the same term and cost

- Boss34

Maybe, but 3 years would only buy 1 UFA year on him, so I'm not sure that makes sense.

I think more term and more $. Part of that is the player, part of that is the team. Kind of given that Colorado is going to get guys cheaper.

Only 1 year left on his contract. Shouldn't cost to much. Plays a feisty game.

Good for Cozens to get that mojo back and then go into summer with some fvckin fire. Hes going to be a stud this year I have no doubts.

Is it really much of a debate? He didn't get the job on merit and his performance would have him fired most places. After his comments about how early he knew their were major problems last season, it's surprising he's still around. Pegula from a few years earlier would have fired him.
- Lunaion

Adams is like family to the pegulas , not even on the hot seat yet

Also, ownership expected a long rebuild when you trade away Eichel and Reinhart

Adams hasn’t even gotten a chance to see the total return in the trades he made

As has been said, this is a big year for him. He needs to stay healthy if we're going to have a chance here.
- QuinnFan

It's why they need to bring in another forward who is at least as good as him, if not better, so they don't end up in the same poopty position as they did last season, when they did nothing to address Quinn's absence.

Theoretical question. I am in the camp that believes that - despite the last two years of Adams being much too passive - that we are still really close to having a fantastic roster.

Lets say that Adams does the following:

- Ehlers, P Kane or comparable for 2nd line
- Kevin Hayes (the live one), Strome, or someone comparable for 3C
- Dowd or someone comparable for 4C
- A couple of Will Carrier types
- Marino for D

That's a hell of a roster, isn't it? That's a top 5 roster in the conference, isn't it?

Of course, to put it a different way, anything that isn't close to this is a fail.

Well, no. There seems to be an assumption that every single move made by any other team implies that they are closer to winning, and that lack of moves implies that you are further away from winning. Its poor logic, and at times the narratives run crazy.

For better or worse, Adams chose to run it back last year. It was intentional and not being "lazy". We all agree that it was much too passive.

- Slump Buster

No the lack of moves for a team that was primed to regress and was already not deep enough to make any real noise is what kept the sabres further from winning

Adams chose not to make moves, it made the team worse. If he chose to make moves and made the team worse then so be it. Both options are deserving of being fired

Good GMs make good moves and make their teams better

I can tell you for certain that it is over according to them. And they expect results this year.

The Stars remain in talks with pending UFA Chris Tanev, trying to make it work. Obviously a huge market for him should he get to Monday’s market opening, including interest from the Leafs

Source? I had no problem with them assuming that Cozens would continue to grow. Nobody expected Tage to put up those numbers again, but we could not have anticipated him being hurt and ineffective for much of the year. You can kill him all day for the bottom 5 roster spots, but I don't fault him for thinking that our top 2 lines would continue to grow.

I think it bears repeating.

The GM that just won the cup was hired the same year as the Top 3 ™️ guy we have.

well, he has to, doesn't he? We don't have enough bodies. Is your concern that we won't get players of that quality?
