The Stars remain in talks with pending UFA Chris Tanev, trying to make it work. Obviously a huge market for him should he get to Monday’s market opening, including interest from the Leafs - jochfr
16M in cap space and have 9/3/1 signed. Duchene, Harley and Tanev need contracts. Then depth. Wonder if they try to clear Suter along with Faksa.

Source? I had no problem with them assuming that Cozens would continue to grow. Nobody expected Tage to put up those numbers again, but we could not have anticipated him being hurt and ineffective for much of the year. You can kill him all day for the bottom 5 roster spots, but I don't fault him for thinking that our top 2 lines would continue to grow. - Slump Buster
Many of us here said they will regress because the underlying were super out of whack.
Shocking. They did. And the idiot In charge did nothing to mitigate any risk of that happening.

He hasn’t proven he knows how to buy yet. - ImThatGuy
True, but the absence of that information doesn't mean that we worry he is an idiot. I am heartened that he hasn't made any bad trades. I don't see him shipping out McNabb for Fasching.

well, he has to, doesn't he? We don't have enough bodies. Is your concern that we won't get players of that quality? - Slump Buster
I think we'll get a borderline 3/4C and either one or two 3rd/4th line wingers depending on Girgensons. Adams already said in terms of defense he's looking strictly at organizational depth |

Bill Zito came in and did exactly what Adams needs to do right now. Infilled his roster. Then after a great year, found a way to pick up Tkachuk and Reinhart. Found Verhaeghe and Forsling for peanuts.
Kevyn's done none of that. He has 6 days.

Expecting linear progression from kids who just had career years is a tough sell
No one knew 6k would turn it around this year and it was easy to predict levi wouldn't be ready. Nothing he did last offseason has any merit. He blew it on every level |

Adams is like family to the pegulas , not even on the hot seat yet
Also, ownership expected a long rebuild when you trade away Eichel and Reinhart
Adams hasn’t even gotten a chance to see the total return in the trades he made - Boss34
That's just a polite way of saying his job has never been based on merit and he's not held to the standard of a typical GM.

Regression is Tage not having the ridiculous shooting percentage. If he scores 40 and not 47, that's fine. Nobody could have predicted what we saw from Cozens. I suspect that much of it was the result of the coach.

One took over a team with a senile owner thinking they could play for the cup cause they got 1 player in FA which ended 40 games later trading out their stars, the other took over a team that was already making the playoffs. |

(shrug) why? Cozens was terrible and Quinn was hurt (although he was very good when he got healthy). Tage was hurt, and then was himself as he got healthy later in the year. The problem wasn't the kids.

Theoretical question. I am in the camp that believes that - despite the last two years of Adams being much too passive - that we are still really close to having a fantastic roster.
Lets say that Adams does the following:
- Ehlers, P Kane or comparable for 2nd line
- Kevin Hayes (the live one), Strome, or someone comparable for 3C
- Dowd or someone comparable for 4C
- A couple of Will Carrier types
- Marino for D
That's a hell of a roster, isn't it? That's a top 5 roster in the conference, isn't it?
Of course, to put it a different way, anything that isn't close to this is a fail. - Slump Buster
I think that's a lot to ask for Adams. He just doesn't seem like the wheeler and dealer type, which is what it would take to acquire 6 players (a couple being fairly high end) in a single off season.
That being said, I'm with you in that I think we're close. I'm not even sure we need all of that to be in the 5-6 spot in the east. With good goaltending, a real PP, some returns to form for some forwards and some added bottom6 grit, I think that's where we'd end up. Teams like the Isles, Caps, Pens and Flyers don't scare me much. |

Nice little deal for Casey. Leaves room for a nice UFA deal at 28.
Dylan DeMelo signed 4x4.9. Mid pairing defensive defenseman, 31 years old. Matt Roy is getting more. - TheSabresTaco
Want to take a guess at what Evolving Hockey predicted the next deals would be for Mittelstadt and DeMelo? |

Maybe, but 3 years would only buy 1 UFA year on him, so I'm not sure that makes sense.
I think more term and more $. Part of that is the player, part of that is the team. Kind of given that Colorado is going to get guys cheaper. - Lunaion
The predicted deal for Mittelstadt by Evolving Hockey was $5.8M for 3 seasons. |

It was adams. Who also chose not to fire the idiot coach in November like any other respectable professional franchise would have done |
