You're right the problem wasn't the kids

It was adams. Who also chose not to fire the idiot coach in November like any other respectable professional franchise would have done

- ieetbred

That was surely the biggest problem in-season. For the second year in a row, he watched as the team burned in November. It was disheartening to hear him say after the season that he also did not like what Meatballs was doing and saying.

No the lack of moves for a team that was primed to regress and was already not deep enough to make any real noise is what kept the sabres further from winning

Adams chose not to make moves, it made the team worse. If he chose to make moves and made the team worse then so be it. Both options are deserving of being fired

Good GMs make good moves and make their teams better

- ieetbred

His moves last offseason did make the team worse.

Adams often talks about how they're trying every day to find ways to get better.

Doesn't seem like it.

The predicted deal for Mittelstadt by Evolving Hockey was $5.8M for 3 seasons.

Wheres he fitting.. we have 4 LHD in the top 4. Or your 3rd pair is Samuelsson and Clifton which im not sure i really like.
- DirtyDan

John Marino is an actual quality 2nd pair RHD.

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/john-marino

We're afraid to move Samuelsson or Byram to the 3rd pair when it would improve the team?

The potential of 7 first round picks in 4 years is the thread that keeps peoples faith in him.

Write that lineup down, it's not a Stanley cup contender.

I can tell you for certain that it is over according to them. And they expect results this year.
- TheSabresTaco

I have no idea what Terry would consider a successful season, but in the slim chance that he canned KA, would anyone really expect him to pick a solid replacement? You know he'd just stay in house and promote one of the other people that have been part of this mess. I personally have very low expectations as long as he owns this team.

Byram to the 3rd pair I dind't think of just cause it seems they want him to play with Dahlin. I just not sure if Samuelsson and Clifton together would be any good. Byram and Clifton I think might b a little better. Spread the talent(or is it skill?) to all 3 pairs.

Regression is Tage not having the ridiculous shooting percentage. If he scores 40 and not 47, that's fine. Nobody could have predicted what we saw from Cozens. I suspect that much of it was the result of the coach.

Not providing proper, quality support by way of bringing in better players to help your young players plus Skinner and Tuch who all just had career years is a massive failure.

He's afraid to make a big mistake.

What's the concern there? Seems like a good 3rd pair to me.

I have a tough time imagining Byram's role being minimized.

I think all the players he wanted last year said no and his back up plan was to run it back. Which yes is a complete failure.

That's just a polite way of saying his job has never been based on merit and he's not held to the standard of a typical GM.
- Lunaion

Yes exactly

That’s why it’s important to have a good season , with some results

Shutdown sure. Its getting the puck up the ice I could see as a concern there. It is a 3rd pair though I may just be over thinking

Suggesting he would have signed in Buffalo for that?
- Lunaion

No, but I'm also not suggesting it would've taken $7M per on a deal at least double the length in term either.

A good deal based on the increased cost to sign a homegrown player who the team stuck with even when his commitment was sorely lacking and his play was dogpoop, says a (frank) of a lot about the complete and total ineptitude that is the Sabres.

Well, no, not quite that dramatic for me. They have a plan for who they want to pay and who they don't (for whatever reason). If they didn't see Mitts as a fit for 3C, it seems like good asset management to move him for a guy that is a potential franchise D. Of course that D has some flaws, but that is the only reason you get him for Mitts.

Its a hockey trade.

Wow, the fallout from the Cup Final is real. Sabres making a gigantic push to acquire Draisaitl. This on top of hot pursuit to get disgruntled Kaprizov out of Wild. Newsflash, the Sabres have the ammo to do it. Just don't expect Tage Thompson or Owen Power to be a Sabre for much longer.

Dahlin-Byram

Samuel-Clifton

Could do pretty well
