So the Leafs will return the cup to Montreal?

- Scabeh

I guess.
Montreal will eventually be a suburb of the GTA anyway

Overpay from Ottawa.. Good return for Boston
- PatC80

It could be.

Until 2022 Ullmark had never had a positive GSAx - and then he ringed off two consecutive fantastic seasons with Boston (but note that his first was very poor).

Until 2022 Korpisalo had never had a positive GSAx - and then he posted a great year with a +16 between Columbus and LA - and then went to Ottawa as the starter. There are two lessons here: 1. Ottawa's defense is not good for goalies and 2. Korpisalo had never started more than 35 games before - solid 1B numbers, but never a starter. Last year he started 49 games for Ottawa and was awful.

Ottawa is getting a guy in Ullmark who had 48 starts (his career high) two years ago and was solid while doing it.

Probably the most damning stat against Korpisalo is that his 5v5 LD Save % was 57th out of 61 goalies who played more than 1000 5v5 minutes. That's appalling. The guys who were worse: Nedejlkovic, Samsonov, Gustavsson and Soderblom.

Nice tie by Poland.
One side looks really hard going forward, the other side has italy.

- Fakepartofme

I did not like how the player took his kick from Poland.

Anyone else see the tweet saying Marner is done in Toronto and going to Utah?

It wasn't Ek. Some other dude and Biznasty retweeted. Not sure if the guy is legit but the tweet was quite bold if it's total BS.

The previous jays manager got fired when he had a better mid season record than Schneider currently has.
Analytics killed the jays like it did the leafs.

- Fakepartofme

This is a fallacy spread by the masses afraid of math. Dubas and company used analytics as a tool - which just about every other GM does - but he's young and has glasses and is obviously a nerd, so he must be using only spreadsheets and math and that's how he was so much more successful at a stupid young age than the moron couch potatoes criticizing him. This is not to forgive many of the mistakes that he did make - but they weren't just analytics based. His largest mistakes were still signing Tavares, overcompensating Marner and Matthews and leaving himself with no cap room to maneuver when he needed to.

Analytics has it's place and it's very useful as long as you don't get caught, like any data mechanic can lead to, in a specific rathole where you neglect to consider causality from other factors. A principal example of this, for me, was when he said that there was no data which showed that smaller players fared worse than bigger players. The dataset, I would bet, completely ignored the size of the complimenting players when making the conclusions. In hockey size matters. Smaller players can excel in an environment where other players are making room for them. And let's face it - there's nothing in analytics that can draw conclusions about a person's character and that desire to win or that hatred to lose.

The Jays aren't just analytics, although you are right that the over reliance on it has destabilized the clubhouse. No one has any faith in anyone in management there. They don't want to be there. But the hitting coach is clearly not working and hasn't been. Walker seems to have passed his best-by date. Schneider doesn't have that clubhouse and no one seems to like Mattingly at all. About the only guy there anyone likes is Hale.

im not sure the Jays could have been a bigger disappointment.
another wasted season

Dont worry buddy. Schneider said two months ago "just be patient. it'll come together."

I hope someone in the media brings it up

It's a tough call.. I think it was an overpay because Ullmark put up decent numbers on some bad Buffalo teams.. We'll see, if Boston made him better, or if he made Boston better. Also, Korpisalo sucked outside of a handful of games against Toronto

You'd imagine the Bruins will use the pick to try to get a forward to offset DeBrusk leaving.

I don't know the answer. But it seems that the game changes as we move towards the end of regular season. And, the playoffs is a completely different game than we see in the first half of the season. I have wondered about the possibility that a team built with a heavy reliance on regular season analytics might be a bust once the playoffs start.

He's doubled-down since then. Writes for the NY Herald ..used to be with S.I. ...Pagnotta responded to it and said no.

It's a little weird that he's put it out so confidently ..even said he got the news directly from Leafs staff.

I'd say ...maybe, but then you factor in Ek's report, that's gotta tip the scale ...to it being poopty click bait.

Rumors had Debrusk leaving the Bruins 100 times in the past 3 years.

I'll wait until a credible source confirms it.

Someone like Pierre Lebrun, Eklund or Chris Johnson.

Ya, kinda what I thought too. Ek is kinda the North Star of BS so if lines up with him, chances are.

(and it was the confidence that kinda perked my ears up too)
