First it does not have to be an 8 year deal, second with Michkov here there Flyers will be instantly better and thus TK clearly fits the timeframe to contend. TK will get extended. The cap is going up, don’t worry about the money.

I appreciate your eternal optimism. I really do.
But the reality is TK would immediately fire his agent if his agent tried to cut a deal for less than 8 years at a high AAV. TK is not giving the Flyers a huge hometown discount.

Michkov will make the team better, but he’s just 19 and will need time to mature and adjust and grow. A 30 year old TK with many miles on the tires will not be worth the cap hit in a few years. That money will be better spent on a 1C and 4 quality D to round out the top 4. Plus Tippett will be still getting paid and is likely the most likely to assume TKs roll.

Also, even if the cap goes up, the demands of other younger players will go up and the Flyers will need to use that cap space on age-appropriate core players.

laughable that you think trading a second line winger would set things back by 5 years.
- TheFreak

I agree with the premise but Konecny is a first line winger

- he aint giving any discount.

- he has missed significant time 2 of the last 5 years. his body isn't going to get better.

- the fact he may want to stay here is a red flag to me. once he gets the bag will his game or attitude change?

- there is no rationale reason to extend tk seeing where the flyers are at currently.

Flyers have already gotten excess value out of him on the current contract.

TK's gonna be looking to recoup those lost earnings in the next one.

Just like your Sunday morning make the college kids sweat comment. Real riveting stuff. It’s not like the NHL isn’t trying to build on young talent or anything

I don’t worry about TK’s compete even if he gets paid. I’m just hoping we can watch him do it somewhere else.
If I were DB this is how I address contract negotiations with TK’s agent.

DB- does Travis want to win the Stanley cup?

Agent- well of course he does and with the young guys coming in he feels he would be a very good mentor for the younger guys just coming in.

DB- if Travis wants to win a cup sooner or later a trade is the only answer if you won’t take our 5 year deal with a modest salary increase.

Agent- absolutely not my client is worth every penny we are asking for.

DB- stats don’t lie

Agent- how’s that

DB- most players that get traded from the flyers go on to win the cup. Claude Giroux being a recent exception but Mr Bobrosky and Mr Cousins are recent examples of success by our former players.

Agent- um you have a point I’ll run it by Travis.

DB- I thought so

With Michkov coming over the Flyers have four top 6 wingers after TK is traded. No need to have a fifth one when you desperately need center and defense.

Sure, let’s trade TK and set the rebuild back another 5 years, and then let’s see Michkov demand a trade because the team sucks so bad. Think about what you saying. Michkov is coming, the Flyers need to surround him with real talent, which is what TK is and the Flyers don’t have much of, not scrubs!

this is a ridiculous statement.

Just real honest heartfelt stuff about what it means to him and what a great group of guys there are on his team. In one interview he was thanking his family. He choked up a little said, "Hey Dad, your name is going up with your heroes…Beliveau, Richard, Howe, Lindsay…and Maurice"
