safe to assume Pinto is being traded, 4.4M left in cap, no one to trade to free up space

I have to think it would be more valuable to keep chych until the trade deadline? People overpay all the time. This is going to look worse when Chabot gets injured.

I hope Perron plays well here... But it stinks of another dead-weight veteran signing that Dorion always did.

Gregor is basically Kelly but a centre?

Amadio is a waiver pickup we signed to 3 years.

What is happening.

Had cap space. Now we don't.

Pinto now becomes the focus.

Guess this means the Sens are playing hard ball with Pinto or daring someone to offer sheet him?

Pinto has either already asked to be traded as some reports say or is seriously contemplating asking to be traded.

That's cap space they simply didn't have the luxury of overpaying on a 3rd line player... when they're clearly thinking Joseph is overpaid at $2.9M. Or when you're trying to sign a tough RFA like Pinto... whose agent just watched you throw around millions in cap space in a very questionable manner.

Watch it be the Capitals that offer sheet Pinto.

Thanfully, I don't think they have the third round pick to do so.

$4,580,918 - $6,871,374

1 First Round Pick
1 Third Round Pick

More likely Pinto is traded IMO.

$4.4 million left in cap space .... still need to add forwards and defence.

If we assume Ostapchuk, Crookshank, Klevin, Guenette ..... that eats up most of the space and we still would not have signed Pinto.

Which means they need to trade Joesph, JBD, and they have to do something to get rid of Hamonic. But is there ANY appetite out there to trade for Joseph and JBD?

Although potentially having Norris on LTIR would solve all the issues.

But in the end, at this point, where is the path to sign Pinto. Why is he so hard to sign .... by both management regimes of Dorion and Staios. Is there something about the player that we don't know about? Why is Pinto "the hill management chooses to die on" when it comes to negotiation?

Again .... we are getting hard up to the cap, even with the cap increase, and we still are not a playoff competitive team.

anyone here have a account with evolving hockey that can compare Chych to jensen defensively?

from what i can gather from other sites, is that Jensen is BARELY slightly better than chych defensively and chych is 26, he can get better in that aspect while Jensen is 34, hes only going to get worst.

this is Brassard for Ziby all over again only this time, it will cost OTT brady, chabot, ullmark and most likely the franshise.

I think chychrun has proven what he is. I liked him but not what the sens needed then or now.
I am all for vet rhd who has won a cup

Thats a bit dramatic chychrun trade ,saying everone will leave and the franchise beacause jacob was traded

ah well if you want vets who won cups then lets trade Stu for NICKLAS BÄCKSTRÖM, hes a vet and won a cup.

they wont leave because OTT got raped in a chych deal, they will leave because Brady, Chabot and ullmark will be l;eaving and they will leave because OTT WILL finish in the bottom 10, and Brady, after watching his brother win a cup, wont stand for being on a bottom feeding anymore.

with OTT starting another long rebuild fans will leave and OTT will wish they has a arena the size of mullet arena of the former yotes

Pretty much anyone the Sens should target is gone now. Not a great day.

They got the goalie, so that’s good, but it doesn’t seem like the defense got any better, so it’s likely moot.

Staios is probably learning it’s harder than it looks to get guys in Ottawa and wasn’t willing to overpay enough. He’s going to have to learn to deal with the Ottawa tax if he wants this to work.

The concern now is Norris/Pinto. Not having one of these guys next year is a problem, losing both is a disaster.

Norris will be ready to go for training camp, then someone will sneeze on him and his shoulder will explode and back to LTIR for him.

Doesn’t really matter though, because the franchise is gone in a couple years anyway.

I'm so confused as to why Staios took the GM role. He had a complete out in being the head of hockey ops and now he is making moves that are quite questionable.

From what I understand, Andlauer is his personal friend. Why put yourself into the crosshairs this soon. Seems he should have hired an experienced GM and remained in Hockey Ops role.

Imagine if this team is garbage yet again and sets up for another rebuild. What are the chances Andlauer wants to do that.

I think Chych, if not directly bagging a better RHD than Jensen, should have at least gotten better assets to be able to go after someone better.

Perron is a curious pickup for the teams needs, especially for that price but the biggest head shaker is paying 2.6 per for Amadio who could be a waiver pickup like he has been almost every year of his career.

This reminds me of when Dorion picked up a bunch of Ex-Lightning and Blackhawks depth players thinking that they are what got those teams to the cup finals.

Annoyed that the money and term given to Pesce and Roy were reasonable and could have been easy for the Sens to absorb at the beginning of the day.

I wonder if offers were made and the players said not interested in the destination.

Nash and NJ and wash got much better today.

Look...if the Sens get off to a good start and they are in the top 9 in the east by America Thanksgiving then everything they did so far this past year (Staois, Green, Ullmark, Jensen) was worth it .

But, man, nothing so far todah is instilling that hope...

Your choice of words are a bit off putting..

Sens are cleaning house, to get rid of all distractions. Imo they could have recieved at least a prospect and and a 2nd out of it along with jensen.
Pinto will get resolved soon.
The management and owner wants everyone focused on the next season and nothing else.

I like that alot for a change. When was the last time that happened?

Apparently, Ottawa made offers but players do not see Ottawa as a destination organization at this point. Gotta start winning first.

As I said ... I am disappointed with the Chychrun trade. But the reality is that we here in Ottawa probably valued Chychrun more then he was actually worth. The Washington trade appears to have been the best offer .... remember, Chychrun kind of made it apparent that he did not want to return next season ..... and -31 in the +/- category is not appetizing. In return ... I wish we got more then just a 3rd round pick as far as draft picks are concerned. Jensen averages 18-19 minutes a game. Is a defensive d-man so don't expect a lot of points. Throw him on a line with Chabot and let's see what happens. He also checks, blocks shots, and can be physical. And, quite frankly, I was never too impressed with Chychrun's "hockey sense" as I think he had a history of poor mistakes and being out of position. A right handed d-man, while not really impressive, Nick Jensen will bring us a bit more defensive orientation and be more the type of d-man we really need at this point.

It is imperative that Ottawa change its psyche on how we play the game. While players may not seem impressive, they are more defensive oriented and have played in defensive systems.

Perron ... okay, maybe a touch too much money .... same with Amadio ...... but say hello to the Ottawa Fee. We have to pay more to get guys to come here. Realistically, Perron is a 3rd line guy ... adds more leadership and a bit of toughness overall. So its not just Brady being a bull in the chinashop. It must also be remembered that Amadio and Gregor will just be 3rd but most likely 4rth line guys. Toss in Ostapchuk and Crookshank and our bottom 6 looks like ....

Ostapchuk/Greig/Amadio/Perron
Gregor/Crookshank/Amadio/MacEwen or ???

A completely different look from last season

Top 6
Tkachuk/Stutzle/Batherson
Giroux/Pinto/Norris/Perron

I still don't think this is even close to being a playoff team at this point. But I do think it could be better in net and defensively.

Final note .... I think we are so up to the cap that despite past pronouncements .....

Hamonic will be bought out at the 2nd buyout window.
Joseph will be traded
JBD will be traded
Forsberg will be traded to free up more cap space .... and bring in a cheaper back-up. Maybe even rotate throughout the year with Sogaard and Merilainen.

Klevin and/or Guenette will play on the 3rd pairing (not JBD and Hamonic)

Jensen barely hits (9th among d-men on his team)

He blocks shots and plays PK (we can find those guys without giving up an asset like Chychrun)

It seems to me that the Senators have and will continue to have an extremely difficult time bringing in any of the more sought after UFA players. The same goes for any player that has any kind of movement protection.

The cold hard reality is that all of the Senators moves will either be "C Tier" UFA players signings (Perron - Overpayed?), stop gaps (Chychrun for Jensen + 3rd), or completely lucky (Ullmark's - No Trade List Backfire). There is always the elusive shrewd move but those are few and far between.

UFA players that everyone wanted (Pick a D, Any D), simply have far better options with teams / locations.
