Are we talking in the context of trading for McGoarty? If so then I would not... most analysts thing his top end is a 2c and most believe he is a winger in the NHL. - Flyfly
2nd line you say? That sounds like a top line Flyers player to me. Ugh.
I can’t believe anyone is entertaining this idea. Maybe if the GM changed. Briere is just not going to trade for a kid pulling the same poop he just had to trade Cutter away for. Honestly the entitlement is a massive red flag unless the kid is a cornerstone prospect like McDavid, Bedard, Matthews. Which he very much is not.
Using the word dictator is just a trendy thing to say now. - Glak18
Oh trust me, I know. Like, does a deal for Ryan Johansson sound like a deal Torts is behind? Denis Gurianov?? If Torts is a dictator, he’s really bad at it. Not because the team is bad but he’s making deals for guys he doesn’t even want to begin with…

Do you think the Ducks saw it as a massive red flag?
When you have the potential to acquire talent you do it; this type of situation is not one where you exclude a player.

Agreed... I rather go another route honestly. Red flags are never a good thing. Most analysts think he is a winger in the NHL. His skating apparently is not very good either.

I understand the part about the Ducks but this kid is not going to be CG type player. He might do very well but most likely he is another swingman that will play at wing in the NHL.

I don’t view him as any sort of dictator. He’s a coach with a philosophy and if you aren’t getting him pieces that fit that then it’s sort of like what are we doing here...
I think he would agree with that and the front office would too.

I think that’s exactly what this is and what it should be. It’s a little naive to believe the coach doesn’t get a say as to who plays on his team and fits the mold he’s looking for.
If this McScroaty kid is really a 6’1” 205 lb 20 year old with the real potential of being a 1C, and you’re convinced you can sign him, you make the trade. You acquire him and bring him in. The Flyers can promise him his ELC and a legit chance at playing center for a bottom dweller in a rebuild. Big solid 1Cs aren’t easy to get. Anaheim doesn’t seem to have any issues with Quitter. So I say GMDB needs to do his due diligence and if the kid is a fit you pull the trigger. Period.
Edit: I know nothing about this player other than he’s a big body with good reviews of his abilities. Never watched him. - mikeyo27
He’s listed primarily as a RW. But some places say he can play both wing and center. I haven’t seen anywhere that he projects as a 1C. If they think he can be a solid middle 6 center, I’m fine with DB looking into it. If he’s only going to be a winger, I’d rather they use assets for a true C prospect or draft picks.
I don’t think anyone here knows what they’re talking about. I’m sure a few people will be quick to call me the kettle but this current argument was pretty easy to pick apart.

I’m not sure the Flyers want a kid that essentially is doing to Winnipeg what Quitter did to them. With that said…circumstances matter. I don’t know enough about him to know if he’s a fit.

Torts mentioned they asked him to review video on Drysdale before the trade. He’s not out there dictating trades to Briere but they definitely will get his input. They wanted to see if Drysdale was a player that could improve defensively and Torts felt he was which is why they were comfortable making the deal for him. Torts has said too, he wants to help improve his defensive game without taking away his offense. A lot of teams do this.

All of this sounds reasonable to me. We knew about Drysdale’s offensive upside coming in. Former high draft pick. If he’s defenseman, you want him to play good defense. So why wouldn’t you ask the coach’s input prior to a trade?

I agree, I’d have reservations about acquiring him but it doesn’t hurt to look into it. If they do their homework and want to make the move then fine. But looking into it, he played with Gauthier not only with USNTDP but as far back as 13U Honeybaked. I can’t imagine there isn’t at least a little connection to these 2 things. His dad played lower level minor leagues, is also a former USHL head coach, and is now a coach and GM with Honeybaked. Gauthier’s dad was also a minor league goalie. It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a little bit of career management happening from their dads.
