Among playoff teams, Vancouver could fit a big contract for him. The problem becomes what they’re trading to get him.

Marner, if moved will have to go to a team that’s likely in the bottom half of the league currently. I think a team like Seattle might make sense. Exchange some of their depth for an elite forward in Marner to play alongside Beniers. Toronto is unlikely to get another player of exact value for Marner but I think that’s ok if they acquire a few pieces that improve their middle 6 and defense. Some quality depth would help ease the burden of the remaining big 3 in Toronto.

Unless a legit top pairing defenseman is coming back, then trading Marner for a lesser defenseman and middle six forwards, would be foolish on their part.

if Ekblad goes on the market will the flyers make a play for him.......

I believe they’d be in on that aggressively. I think the plan is to not do much in free agency this summer but be big players in it the following 2 summers.

The funny thing is, even with that approach it still makes sense to not give TK the long term deal so that they have the money to spend in those 2 summers.

Flyers salary cap situation and all that dead 💀cap makes adventures deals hard.
- THE EVIL WITHIN

I do not worry about the cap space as if they want to get a deal done they will. at least that is what good gm's do. they find a way

I do, Flyers did it when they traded Recchi for Desjardins, LeClair, and Dionne. That’s what Toronto needs to do.

A team like NJ could be a fit. Maybe they can get one of their young defensemen and a forward.

It depends. Leafs are definitely missing something to get them over the hump. They have Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Taveras so if they’re smart about it they can afford to move one of them to address other needs.

That ownership and fanbase seem at their wits end otherwise I’d say maybe they give it another year but I expect them to do something substantial after that exit.

- hereticpride

Matthews is 1A to Marner being 1B in Toronto. These two aren’t attached to the hip the way Lindros and LeClair were. Marner produces no matter who he plays with. He just has to bring more in the playoffs.

Actually the real problem is, we can’t punch each other through a computer screen. We all know most of these conversations go in a very different direction in person.

With so many teams looking for defenders Briere would be foolish not to see if there is interest in Sanheim. Yes i know about the NTC but those things can be figured out. Just so many teams are looking for top 4 defenders, Sanheim could fill that need for a team for a while with some cost certainty.

What high contender can afford to give him a 8 year high salary contract.
- WhiskeyMan

If a team thought they were a contender and thought Marner could make it work they could find a way to make the money work. Maybe not all but some could.

Just means he has a say. Does he want to spend his prime on a team that is not going to make the playoffs? Maybe he would like playing for a cup.

I am pretty sure a lot of guys who have had trade clauses have been moved.

How likely in today's NHL is it for the Leafs to get a top 5 NHL defenseman and a 50 goal power forward back in return? I don't see NJ trading Hughes or Nemec. I don't see Toronto wanting Hamilton. Your suggestion illustrates the issue. The Leafs being able to find a return that justifies moving Marner is going to be very difficult. Not impossible but difficult. Making change just to change, will most likely bite you in the ass.

Players with NTC can be traded and have been traded. It just means the player has a say.

Another one that doesn’t understand the English language…. Ntc means the player has ALL the say not A say.

The issue I have is that he chimed in on a post not directed to him calling names like a child. Absolutely no need of it. Stick to hockey and if you disagree fine but leave it at that. He also wasn’t able to discern that I actually didn’t see an issue with roenicks comments so he completely missed the point of my post as well. Seemed like he just wanted to start the day off name calling.

I don’t have a problem with what you said. Guys who talk poop on here only do it because they know there aren’t any consequences. I don’t even know how anyone could feel any pride in being on this level of coward.

Actually it's you again being a moron. Nobody is disputing that the player doesn't have a say or all the say. That's just semantics. What is being said is that a player with a NTC can be traded. You're wrong in implying that they can't. They can and they have. Ulmark had a NTC. Someone like you who obviously can't read, should not be telling others that they don't understand the English language.
