It's been a long time since the Leafs had this many prospects in goal - Woll (not really a prospect anymore, but for the sake of argument, he's at least intriguing and his potential hasn't been fully realized yet), Hildeby, Akhtyamov and Peksa are all someone to keep an eye on. I don't have a ton of faith in Peksa, but the other two could also be NHL calibre goalies.

Vancouver doesn't seem _that_ up against it. But they move from $14m available to $18m available, which I suppose allows them to take a run at retaining both of Lindholm and Zadorov as well as resign Silovs and maybe still patch around the edges.
That would still be tight, but if the big 2 there were around $12m, maybe they could do it.

Absolutely does not work that way. He's soon to be 34 years old. He doesn't have time to waste. If he knows his future with this team is done, he immediately starts finding a new place to settle.

If the Leafs don't bring him back next year, does he just retire? No, he doesn't. He finds a new place to play, continues to fill his bank account and chase a Stanley Cup. If he's told his time is up, he'd just start that process a year earlier than expected.

It's the Leafs (and a lot of fans too) who refuse to admit their mistake and ask him. But if they told him his time is up, he'd move as long as he landed in a place he likes.

Hope Lafferty hits the UFA market because it'd be nice to bring him back. He was a good bottom-six player.

But if Chicago throws him stupid money (like Foligno and Perry last year) just to fill the cap floor, then he won't come back.
