IMO, a lot of it is just posturing with the media/fans, Marner and the Leafs will end up agreeing on a deal. He wants to stay, can't see the Leafs getting fair value for him without a signed contract or else he is just a rental for 1yr.

Actually I could see them getting a sweet return for him this year. Whoever takes him on after July 1st will only have to pay out $775K for the season because he gets the rest which is $7.25 million this year as a July 1st bonus.

If Marner wants to stay in Toronto he’ll also need to reshape his game to what works for his new coach. We will see. None of us knows 100% what will happen.

In his 9 years with NYI he broke 90 pts 3 times. THRE times.

So I do find it funny that ANY team would offer him 13m/year. Leafs offering him 11m per year was bad. 13m / year would ... stop time.
