Mr Marner, we have a trade with WPG, do you agree to waive your NMC?

Funny part is Hubie isn't really a point guy like that and had likely a career year but they moved him. Whereas Marner isn't a 100 point player but has been consistently over a ppg.
- Aaron_85

True but there are similarities - Huberdeau was along time Panther, had been going there for weeks on end since he was a kid and absolutely loved it there and was shocked and sad when he got moved.

He was probably extra sad to watch the cup get won there and not be a part of it but it's a business.

13M offered by SJ vs 11M offered by Leafs

Yeah this is known information, he is slow today.

You mean 3 time cup champion Phil the Thrill Kessel?
- Aaron_85

Marner can win 3 Cups if/when he's traded too.

I'm laughing 1st - because there's no proof of that.

And secondly, that any team would offer a player who never broke 90 pts 13m/yr.
In his 9 years with NYI he broke 90 pts 3 times. THRE times.

So I do find it funny that ANY team would offer him 13m/year. Leafs offering him 11m per year was bad. 13m / year would ... stop time.

Marner was arrested in a crackhouse in Markham this morning.

He was found passed out in an assless furry suit that looks like a possum.

$11 wasn’t bad because if the cap didn’t get locked down it would seem more than fine. Contracts are written up expecting the cap to rise, not controlled by something covid showing up.

The $13 mill is nothing more than an amusing rumour all the way tho lol

Tavares managed to be ostensibly a ppg player without any offensive support on Long Island.

Let's see you try to score 100pts flanked by Lee and Bailey or Vanek and Okposo.

It is better than your sources thats for damn sure.

Elliote Friedman said his sources said it was high as 13.5M.

I will believe the most reputable insiders in the game over you 100 times out of 100.

That's not proof. One non-referenced mention. It's not supported by any real citation.

Any other sources for that?
How about some of your "inside sources" like your barber's sister's cousin?

How did he do on the Leafs, with a LOT of offensive support? Break 90 points ... how many times?

The guy was overpaid at 11m/year. 13m/year would be laughable.

His first year he was playing 1C with Marner and scored a career high 47 goals.

As a 2C since then, and without Marner flanking him, he's continued to be, ostensibly, a ppg player.

It's too bad the entire Leafs team (frank)ing sucks in the playoffs though. Whatcha gonna do? 🤷

Yeah have to ignore people like that

They should be insiders, they clearly know so much more than the ones that get paid a lot of money to do it. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.

The current Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers disagree with not moving 100 point players and being successful afterwards. They moved a 115 point centreman!
- Cush29

Ummm, they traded him for a more physical 100pt player.

He placed 3rd in Hart voting twice pre-Leafs. He's just getting older and slower.

Marner to Winterpeg for Ehlers and McGroarty. (frank) it, I'll take a pick, too.

Send Marner to that poophole for a season as a lesson. Welcome him back as a humbled, better person. Then sign him to a long term deal for a lot less than he currently makes.

Off-season GM'ing continues to be easy.

When guys like CJ report it as something definite it’s usually pretty close to a lock. And no, reporters/insiders don’t reveal their sources. That’s how they get their info.

JT is an elite player.
He's just not accomplished enough to justify the numbers being thrown around.

Pastrnak, playing with no support in Boston (unless you count a past-his-prime Marchand) managed 47 goals and 110 pts last year. On a team that's mostly known for it's defensive style of play.

Pasta signed his 11.7m contract last year after posting a career high 61 goals and 113 pts.

JTs contact was signed 6 years ago, after putting up 37 goals and 84 pts.

I just don't see it as realistic a gm offered him 13m/year, six years ago.

i dont know or really care. but he was basically the biggest name to get to UFA status to feild offers... it wouldnt surprise me if he got higher offers.

not many players his age and quality are free agents. was a big deal
