His first year he was playing 1C with Marner and scored a career high 47 goals.

As a 2C since then, and without Marner flanking him, he's continued to be, ostensibly, a ppg player.

It's too bad the entire Leafs team (frank)ing sucks in the playoffs though. Whatcha gonna do? 🤷

He probably thinks the Big Bang is fake news, can’t prove it!

Yes. But many rumours are just that. Rumours.
- Nasty_Duck

"They were even willing to go as high as $91-million to sign No. 91, which is $2-million more per season on a seven-year deal than he ended up getting from the Toronto Maple Leafs."

Theres no "it was believed" or "i heard maybe/possibly"

It states "they were willing".

Seems like more than a rumour

And i understand that would have been nuts.

JT is an elite player.
He's just not accomplished enough to justify the numbers being thrown around.

Pastrnak, playing with no support in Boston (unless you count a past-his-prime Marchand) managed 47 goals and 110 pts last year. On a team that's mostly known for it's defensive style of play.

Pasta signed his 11.7m contract last year after posting a career high 61 goals and 113 pts.

JTs contact was signed 6 years ago, after putting up 37 goals and 84 pts.

I just don't see it as realistic a gm offered him 13m/year, six years ago.

- Nasty_Duck

Can you (frank) off Boston Bruins fan? The team that literally has made a name for itself by getting people to buy in to the culture and sign team friendly deals?

We're sensitive around the money!

He placed 3rd in Hart voting twice pre-Leafs. He's just getting older and slower.

When guys like CJ report it as something definite it’s usually pretty close to a lock. And no, reporters/insiders don’t reveal their sources. That’s how they get their info.

It’s still nothing more than a rumour when it comes to proof.

Nobody ever mentions their source.
Or else they would the source.

Actually, sportsnet wasnt that biased in the finals at all.

- Fakepartofme

You’re kidding right? My god watching them or ESPN were two different things… you yourself are just biased when it comes to Edmonton

He doesn’t work for either team so yes, that’s a rumour. Unless you’re crazy enough to think a NHL team’s management shares anything like this with the media.

Just saying you guys have had a very unprecedented run of underpaying all of your best players It's annoying

Both the American and Canadian broadcasts were biased as hell… ever see panther’s fans being focused on when it came to the Canadian one? No? What a shock.

So the year after McDavid set the bar with his $12.5m deal, another GM is gonna up that for a player that's not nearly as good?

Sorry, rumors don't do it for me. I need to see citations.

Yeah, I get it.

But I'm pretty sure those days are going away, and Bruins will start a bit of a decline.

I heard "rumors" DeBrusk is looking for 6-6.5m and Swayman will be going from his elc to 7 or 8m / year.

Happy?

Your lack of belief in the several sources doesnt define that its not true.

But go on, you have to argue

There's no citation.

They are all using the same "rumor"...

The rumor: John Tavares reached out to the Islanders on Sunday morning to inform them of his decision to move on from the franchise. The Isles reportedly made Tavares an offer of $88 million over eight years and are believed to have increased it at the minute, according to The Fourth Period. But the other teams involved in the sweepstakes are said to have gone even higher, with the Sharks offering $91 million across seven years — a whopping $13 million AAV that would make Tavares the highest-paid player in the NHL.
