Ask him to waive and inform him he will not be re-signed next year.

Those two pieces of information should be enough for him to waive and get a head start on where he wants to go to next.

The idea he's going to play for free on his next contract is crazy. If he scores 40 goals this year, there's no shot in hell he's taking a discount. And also, at his age, it makes no sense for the Leafs to keep him either. He had his prime years here, it didn't work, time to go in a different direction with players in their prime.

The only guys the Leafs should have that are past their prime are guys willing to play for 1 million like Corey Perry types. That's it.

- Rare_Jewel

How would the not resigning him be an extra incentive?

If anything, it will just get him to dig in his heels.

And then when contact is over, he can sign anywhere he wants. Your suggestion does not impact this at all.

For someone to want to give him a new 8 year deal?

Same thought process as demoting an 11 million dollar player to the 4th line for 9 mins a game. Somehow wasting all that cap on 9 mins is going to force the player to leave.

I mean I feel like he'd take the easy nights and collect 11 million

No point in disagreeing with UG. He'll just bring in one of his alts and start agreeing with himself

This is so wrong, Elliotte and Chris are the best in the business so get out of here with that bull poop.

Bro, just like everything in life you use the evidence you have.

You probably don't believe the big bang happened either do you?

You make my head spin with your stubborness.

- Santo_44

You believe statements without evidence. You’re the stubborn one who only needs belief, not proof, probably religious too based off of this.

And no, you don’t do anything you want based on loose unproven evidence, you don’t do anything until you have absolutely proof or you’re just foolish.

The irony is the posters wanting the leafs to treat their players like poop "because it's a business" don't want their own companies they work for to do the same. They'd be super pissed if their boss came and said "this is a business...see yeah"

I think everyone knows that arguing with him is largely moot - and I swear you need a sticky note on your monitor that says, "Make my point, let him re-argue him, restate and reiterate my point, and then stop. Just let it go."

Here's the funny thing about everyone on here - go look at all of our posts. Just about no one ever changes their mind on their positions. Everyone is very inflexible, but UG/RJ is the guy that everyone gets pissed at. He comes in makes his case, and then just restates it. Everyone else argues with him by doing the same thing, but it's the opposite.

It's not just that he comes in and says the same poop day in and day out - because lots of people here do the same thing. Right? I know underhill or Bullot or fifty are going to come in want to improve size and toughness and tenacity. I know that mr. sir is going to post a list of the several players he wants from Columbus or Anaheim. I know that there are guys who love guys on Utah, or Seattle, or, or, or . . .

And the funny thing is that it's this _one_ guy that just peeves everyone. It's sort of amusing. His posts are well positioned and well articulated, but not always as simple and straight-forwarded as presented.

But that said I will say that while I don't think JT would ever waive, nor is he incentivized to waive, nor do I think the Maple Leafs want to be the team to incentivize him to waive - when you look at this team it's basically in need of that $10m paid to him or Marner to make the team more well balanced. There's simply too much up front and not enough on the back-end.

But if you had to get rid of one player that would make a difference - and you could get rid of anyone - I think for almost all of us it would be Tavares. The fact it's not going to happen doesn't change the fact that his contract is our albatross.

It's because of the arrogance he forces down your neck in doing so. He talks down to everyone that moves, and if you're not smart enough to see he's right about everything and the only one who knows anything at all he's instantly condescending to you.

It's that egotistical mix of knowing everything whilst telling you to "watch the games" or "read" that does the job.

Well that is exactly the point with UG. No one is arguing losing JT's big contract would be a big help this year. Getting him to waive, especially by telling him "na na na na na na we do not want you" is not going to work. It is that stupid poop that gets shoved down our throats multiple times a day that is annoying

That's a kick in the balls for Edmonton man. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for the Maple Leafs to get brutalized in the Final. But that's a thin margin to lose on, (frank)ing eh. Hockey is hardcore man.
