The Hockey News and SN in their last mocks before the draft both have Buium going at 12.
- Sublime55

I'll believe that when I Zeev it. TSN has him #7

This site has him going #8

If Demidov was a center, id be ok with it. Thats too much to give up for a winger
- bradster

Totally agree 100%. I love Tomahawk's idea though. Was thinking about a variation of it yesterday. Makes a ton of sense to give up a starter on the roster to move up to get someone who will move the needle for this team. I just have 2 issues. 1) Demidov probably won't make it to #4. Therefore the price to go up to #2 / #3 will be outrageous and (2) would rather substitute someone else besides Foerster. Hard to find players with shooting skills who are willing to play a defensive style.
That all being said, I think they can find a talent in the top 6. If they could find a deal to 6 or 7, could pick up Iginla. Just because a player is Russian, doesn't mean they are going to be like all their Russian predecessors. Iginla has ample size and is projected to go by mid-way through the top 10. Has enough skill to play with mm, and he will likely play a 200 ft game.

Understood, but that’s at least two sites that have him at 12. It suggests there’s still some wide variability in the top half of the draft.

I’d think laughts would slot anywhere on 3rd line. Move between 3rd /4th line. Play big penalty kill minutes

Scott Laughton never excited me until Torts got here. This isn’t to say Torts deserves credit. Laughton has been fun to watch by starting the PK and always dangerous shorthanded. He’s been Mike Richards like.

Cates is a 4LW. Having him center Michkov would be an atrocity.
- Feanor

And Poehling for that matter. I’m cool with Poehling earning his spot. He did fine for what we could expect. I just don’t want him w/ MM. Pass.

Put him on line 2 with Laughton or see if you can get any more juice with Frost. Really that would be for Frost more than MM.

He should have Foerster or Tippett on the left with either Laughton or Frost centering.

I want him hitting the ground running with both proven talent, as well as the ability to make existing talent better. Let’s not frustrate the kid, let alone hampering his playmaking.

yea his work on the PK last year is a great reason to move him, not sure he will be able to duplicate that again.

Yep, definitely means none of the D will be there at 12. And if Iginla and Sennecke both go top 10, then Flyers should have their choice between Catton and Helenius.
- Schmojo

Every draft the D drops... Are these 6 that much better than previous years?

Laughton just had his worst defensive season since he was 22 and got demoted to the AHL.

Why would someone with so much money, and have so many expensive things and travels so much, spend on their waking hours here?

There’s certainly huge variability as far as where, but he’s still either the 3rd or 4th defenseman off the board.

At ES. The Flyers got steamrolled with him on the ice, and he wasn't even getting hard matchups.

It’s a few factors.

1) there are quite a few, and they’re very closely ranked. Instead of knowing you’d be fine with the top 4, 6 is more like it considering the odds.

2) the bad teams desperately need them. The only teams in front of them not interested in defense with their 1st pick are SJ, NJ, CBJ and Mtl.

3) the forward pool doesn’t have as many top flight, game changing prospects. There’s a lot of really good ones, but like 2 or 3 possible flagships. So this is a good year as any to strengthen the blue line if you’re not 100% sold on that scoring prospect.

You guys have to explain to me why we can't give credit to Torts for the success of various players on this team. Do I need to remind everyone where we were before Torts took over? It was a dumpster fire with 3 coaches, Vigneault, Yeo and Gordon. AV managed to have some success, but was short-lived. TK was in just about everyone's doghouse, and is now on the pk eating teams up. Laughton you just spoke of, we've all witnessed him realize what he can do for this coaching staff. Cates, Tippet and York were developed with this regime. Sealer and Walker found success. Sanheim became a better player. Risto spoke out about the coaching. It all went back to one adjustment that facilitated odd man rushes both at even strength & pk. Did any of the other coaches find it? Can Torts be a better person sometimes? Couldn't agree more. But we're not having dumpster fire talks now, but instead debating on who we can get to take the next step ! I'm all in. Go DB !

I don’t have a real issue with Torts. I was actually actively trying to avoid a stupid ass Torts debate. Somehow I’m now currently being pulled into a Scott Laughton even strength debate when nobody said anything about Scott Laughton at even strength.

Well, considering he said “at ES”, I'm guessing he’s referring towards Laughton’s knack for his PK being solid.

Gonna go with him.

Even if he falls, with SJ having moved to 11, none of the top D will get to 12.

Yes, there’s more top D this year than normal and there’s fewer potential top centers.
