From Appleyard:
“The biggest red flag for me with this pick is actually not related to the player.
It is IF @NHLFlyers passed on Buium because they THINK they have strong young D and wanted to add a C.
That would be scary.”
Pretty much sums it up. Passing on Buium says they see Drysdale as their 1D. So their evaluation of their current players is poor. Exactly why they’re gonna keep TK for another 9 years. - Schmojo
Nah roll with risto another 3 years. Who needs a potential 1d with tons of offense. That doesn’t play well in todays nhl |

I just want the Flyers to trade up now and get Solberg ... - jd250
Maybe he can use that 3rd round pick he got to pass on a potential #1 D to take a kid that would be there into the 20’s. |

JD is a RD
Buium is a LD.
They don’t compete. In fact, he was probably projected to be his pairing partner in due time. |

I don't know if this is a good pick or a bad pick. I'll tell you in 2-3 years as we see how Luchenko develops. All I can say is Luchenko is a center with above average speed and good skill, plus already has NHL size and will only fill out more, maybe even grow another inch or two. Flahr is a very good drafter and has done a good job with the Flyers. Everyone hated when the Flyers traded down and got York, and look how that turned out. I just think we need to see how this turns out and not rush to judgement. This clearly was not the Flyers first choice. They desperately tried to trade up and couldn't do it, and obviously didn't like Helenius and Buium enough. - jd250
I also slept at a Holiday Inn last night. I like ya man but holy poop you’re dulesional. This was the complete opposite of a swing. This was as monumental disappointment. Arrogance of the Hextall era honestly |

Yeah, I would have rather packaged the pick in a trade for a prospect or something. This was a disappointment all around. |

So if they’re not taking big swings to get elite talent they will wheel and deal or think they don’t need it/already have it (internal player evaluation way off the (frank)ing reservation). |

I would of them rather take Solberg at #13 if that was the case. Hopefully the kid becomes an all-star in the AHL in a few years.

Ohh but they made sure to get a guy out there to shout out let’s get ready to rumble.
This is a pathetic, antiquated franchise full of (frank)ing scum. Top to bottom, and every one of them associated with it.
Comcast doesn’t have the balls to hold them accountable.
Imagine the (frank)ing losers cheering this poop on next season. |

Scouting notes: Luchanko has all the makings of a dream bottom-six role. Given the offensive instincts and abilities he has shown this season, Luchanko has a better ability to drive play than many believe. He's an excellent two-way player, a rare feat for a very young player in a draft class. The combination of production, development and a later birthday give Luchanko a projection closer to middle six than bottom six. |

Who, the Flyers? I don't know. Solberg is still there. EJ Emery is still there. Good size in both. The Flyers might have an opportunty to trade with Vegas here. |

i dont care how many they get, id rather get 2 good ones. You arent trading 10 laughtons for a celebrini. Now getting an nhl players in rounds 4+ is good news, but everyone gets some of them. Would you rather 4, 3-4 liners or 2 top 6? 4th liners are cheap to get as FAs also
No idea how this is going to turn out, but everything ive read, zeev could be a #1. Maybe they thought the wild would take helenius?? You dont take chances like that on a rebuild, when you have an opportunity, They better trade up from 32 now

It’s not the same. The latter half of the first round is expected to be very random. Washington wasn’t passing on a potential 1D in Buium. Context matters. Flyers could have moved back a second time and still gotten Luchenko or Hage. NYI got a 2nd for moving back only 2 spots from 18-20. That’s way better asset management than the Flyers. |
