Both great for the organization but yeah it’s time to turn the page. I wish them the best. I don’t want to get to ahead of myself but it’s feeling like I’m getting what I wanted for the last almost three years, finally. - Cptmjl
Cal was one of my favorite non islander players when Garth first brought him in. I remember watching him in a random game when he played for MN and he was hitting everything. He’s always played with an edge. But, I’m ready to move on too. |

I’ve always been a fan of Clutterbuck. My only issue was that I wouldn’t draft him 5th overall which is basically what the isles did by swapping Nino for him |

Should the Isles chase Skinner? |

Yep I was super excited when we got him. Thought it was a bit of an overpayment(Nino) but was always a fan. Good Islander. |

Gotta think Lou kicks the tires on Skinner, Stamkos, Marchessault, and Teravainen. Their number one need is a 1LW. It appears they’re gonna let Martin and Clutter walk so that frees up a few million. |

Stamkos would go to the rags before here.
Skinner too old and too fragile.
Marchessault is Nelson on the wing.
None of these guys would take a one-year deal and I would not sign them for longer.
Teravainen I would go for. not sure a 3 yr or 5 yr deal gets it done.

I’m ok with any of them for 3 years and it puts Nelson back to 2c. Adding 30 goals to this roster wins 10 more games. Also improves the PP. |

I agree with this. No chance the Islanders have a shot on Stamkos. Islanders need to be very careful with the contracts they give out going forward. They also need to make sure they are not blocking future prospects if the team starts building the prospect pool better.

Looks like the Rangers will be able to get rid of Goodrow and Trouba while giving up nothing. Mother(frank)ers. |

Flo Hockey
New York Islanders
Grade: B+
First rounders:
Cole Eiserman, LW
Day 2 Picks:
Jesse Pulkkinen, D
Kamil Bednarik, C
Dmitry Gamzin, G
Marcus Gidlof, G
Xavier Veilleux, D
Analysis: The Islanders took a chance on the elite goal scorer in this draft in Cole Eiserman, whose value dropped over the course of the year in NHL circles. I still like betting on goals, though. Meanwhile, they got one of the more intriguing re-entry players in Jesse Pulkkinen who has a big frame and some underrated skill. Kamil Bednarik and Marcus Gidlof were also on the FloHockey Top 100 with Eiserman and Pulkkinen, too. Drafting two goaltenders in the draft, a year that was thought to be weaker at the position, was an interesting choice, but I'm sure they didn't think Gidlof would be available where they got him. All in all, the Islanders added some high-end pieces to their prospect system. |

The Isles added pieces. I am glad that they did not make a move just to make a move. These pieces are all several years away, but they have put some cookies back in the jar.
It will be interesting to see if the isles add anything tomorrow outside of their own players. Hoping that any contracts given out are in the 1-to-3-year range. |

The Rangers have always managed to do that. It seems like a lot of teams can figure out how to do that except the Isles.

How teams continue to let the Rangers off the hook is unreal. Similar to the Islanders not being able to figure out signing quality UFA's. |

It will be interesting to see what happens. Islanders will need to shed salary and not just MM and Cal. Rather the Islanders not use 2025 picks to get rid of players.

I think the difference is the Rangers are just more active. Dating back to Neil Smith, then Sather and now Drury, they just don’t ever sit on their hands. If they get rid of Goodrow and Trouba they’re gonna get stamkos if he hits July 1.
The isles on the other hand will hold onto players hoping they turn things around. See Wahlstrom. Lou said he’s not giving him away. That’s great and all but he’s not been playing and it’s an asset that can be turned into something of a need. |

This is all fair. The Rangers do not use excuses like taxes or the Cap. The Rangers try to change things when things are not working. Aggressive teams win and passive teams struggle. |

Looking like Lou’s signing of Maxim Tsyplakov is meant to fill the gap at 1LW. He said he wasn’t signed to play in bport and he did play LW I believe. 🤷🏻♂️
I think losing Clutterbuck and Martin makes that 4th line open for young players to grab spots. Maybe that Maxim kid plays on that 4th line and they address the 1LW via free agency |

At this point Lou should use the whatever fits in the budget and improves the team. The best none moves would be let the aging players go. Save your cap space and see what falls out of the tree after training camp. Maybe a couple of vets that can help the line up.
If not standpat until Thanksgiving as you will build up cap space.
Listen, Sorokin could come back solid. He knows he did not fare well at the end of year. That may give him some incentive. JGP may come in with chip given all the talk about moving him. That pop you hear maybe Wally finally figuring it out. Pullock and Pelech are healthy.
Yes, there are a lot of moving parts, but I do not see it any other way right now. Lou has not indicated to the otherwise.

I was thinking the same thing. I am sure Roy wants someone that knows and understands his system. Who were his assistants in Colorado?

Guetzel to Tampa. - kindlyrick
He was looking to get paid. I do not think Tampa is a contender. Their core is on the closing side of the window. I would have worked something out with Canes. I think Canes chances of getting back are stronger than Tampas.
