The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired the rights to pending unrestricted free agent Chris Tanev from the Dallas Stars, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman (Twitter link). The Leafs will have two days to negotiate with the prolific defensive-defenseman before he enters free agency on July 1st.

Going to go out on a limb here, but I would not be surprised to see Kaapo Kakko coming to Detroit with Trouba. Berggren, one of our D prospects and draft picks going to NYR.

I highly doubt Kakko would be included, they can trade him and get good assets back, not attached to Trouba

I totally agree. The American kid iserman should have been the pick. Walman deal as of right now looks downright bad in every way. And passing on some ideal players today either by draft or trade is perplexing. July 1st will be interesting. All I can is if we do not make the playoffs this year we still must improve on the point total of last year or we have regressed and head office people need to be held accountable. .

Why does the Walman deal look bad? Free agency hasn't begun yet.

Because as it stands, they gave up Walman and a 2nd round pick for nothing but cap space and got nothing else back. They didn't even try and waive him if all they wanted was cap space. There are also reports that most of the GM's didn't even know Walman was available. Combine all this and it looks horrible on Yzerman not doing his job properly and wasting assets for nothing.

But if it's for cap space you have yet to see what he does with it. Or what the future considerations will be (which usually they aren't much but hey better than nothing).

Red Wings fans love to female dog and moan about everything. It's just what goes on here. It's like group therapy or something.

a) He had trade value
b) you can waive him and he'd get picked up
c) didn't have to attach the pick to move him
d) there are other pylons he could have paid 2nd round pick to move

I don't recommend applying logic or reasoning here. They hate Yzerman/Red Wings and for whatever reason they follow them. Misery loves company maybe? Your guess is as good as mine.

No you're not. I've been on here for a long time and you never were a Wings fan. You just showed up recently in Wings threads pretending to be one with your favorite team still listed as the Leafs to troll people. Nobody here cares what you think about us or the Wings.

I like the Ny-guy, Becher and Forlund picks, Whipple and Miller will have to wait and see, but none of these are real exciting.

I'm with you on this. Forslund looks impressive, Whipple MAY surprise, MBN will do very well....We could've done better.....but could've done worse..... Nothing exciting.

You're so spot-on.

Hey everybody, let's all extoll the virtues (that means to cheer or speak highly of...'cause, no brains Wing's fans) of a team that has soaked one of the Top3 skaters of our time in a bath of SCPO ("Stanley Cup Play-Offs....buncha dolts) failure!!

C'Mon, guys!!! Let's ALL go!!!!

Oh and Plante is a playmaker with strong backhand passing. So the jury is out on him too. But he may just be Hirose 2.0.

So much more upside was available. Yzerman is a clown.

Detroit Red Wings: C+

Detroit’s first-round pick, Brandsegg-Nygard, projects as a hard-to-play-against top-six winger. Their day two picks weren’t that exciting to me. Max Plante and Ondrej Becher are very skilled forwards and have chances to play but have a long way to go in their development.

Honestly, he's the kid that I'm most eager to see play. Seems like a bundle of talent, good scouting reports that I've been able to find....

Full disclosure: I'm not overpy thrilled with how we drafted. That being said, I was high on Helenius (snagged before our slot...). Iwatched & listened to a bunch of stuff on this draft, Eiserman was a fairly certain Top10, lot's of talent. He dropped to20.

So, 2 questions: 1. WTH happened to his stock???
2. Who, give playersavailable, would you have taken instead at#15?

GMs are pussies. Afraid to take a risk on a “one dimensional” goal scorer.

Eiserman was a clear pick at 15

Artamonov was a clear pick at 47

Yzerman is a bum and will have this team in perpetual mediocrity.

Scouting reports on Artamonov read like he's the next Fedorov......

Yep, it's like they are scared or something.
He should get some tips from the Dallas GM, because God knows he learned only the wrong kind of crap from Holland.
