Legit answer.

It’s a bit of an overpay because Savoie is arguably our best prospect and had a hell of a test last year.
He would have been packaged by a more established GM for a top 6 guy, but this is Buffalo and our GM is not experienced. Good trade that will help a lot more now than Savoie will in the next 2 years.

Maybe they explored a trade for Joker and realized his value was a third through fifth round pick.

What good does any of that do for Buffalo?

He also probably doesn’t want to sign long-term here at the moment which again I can’t blame him.

Yesterday, you thought he was a lock to make the team....

There's no question he'll play in the NHL again, just a matter of when.

I don't mind trading him, but these moves where supposed to be for top 6 help, not bottom 6.
