1. What have we given up this offseason? We have 5 - 6 very nice prospects, we gave up one of them as well as a second.
2. We still have a treasure trove of assets to move when the prices come down - Slump Buster

No, not with this trade. Just in general, of course.
I don't think any of the prospects have huge value. I think we have 6 or 7 guys that have a middle 6 ceiling - that certainly isn't getting you an established 2nd liner.
I think Adams is one trade away from having a very good offseason. If he overpaid a bit for a couple of guys, so be it. As we've seen, it is expensive to shop right now. That's why teams like the Rags and Leafs have been locked up. - Slump Buster
I went from being very annoyed thinking Adams was done based on his press conference on Monday to thinking he just might know he has to improve this team.
He filled one big hole with today’s trade. He still have a massive top 6 winger hole to fill. I think just maybe he is still working on it.

You now allow Cozens way more offensive zone starts. Like he got at the World's when he was a top player. This is the way. |

They moved a free 2nd for a 4th liner and a guy who was jumped by a few of our own prospects for a young 3C who is one of the fastest players in the league.
There are a few ways to look at it. The Sabres got players that fit their mold of how they want to play (fast and faster) who are both cost controlled (we will see what Malenstyn will cost) for a pick they got for free and a prospect that they felt didn’t have a path in Buffalo.
The team is better on paper today than it was yesterday. They will probably finish higher in points than they did last year. I still don’t think it’s enough for the playoffs though. - Stripes77
You don't think that this is enough to make the playoffs? I am not not saying that they should be done (they shouldn't), but our bottom 6 if worlds better than it was last year. Couple that with better health and a competent coach, and it should be enough.
Also, *on paper*, hasn't every other team in front of us regressed this offseason? Jersey is the notable exception. |

The reported cost for Ehlers is 3 premium pieces, and another piece. Similar for Zegras, and probably Necas. The sellers don't have to be in a hurry to sell anyone, but I am sure that they want to make these trades and not risk injury in-season. |

Boston got better no? Tampa maybe regress. Ottawa should be better rounded. Detroit is better. Toronto looks better depending on goaltending. |

NJ and Ottawa have made big leaps in projected points. So has Detroit. |

It isn't great, but the fact that he was a mid-first not long ago keeps his value respectable.

He didn't convince me he loves krebs at 3c like at all. And he didn't convince me he wasn't hunting for a 2w too. |

2 straight years where the kid they draft is instantly viewed as their best prospect, in what's touted as the #1 system.
They are operating like they love the top half of their lineup, the very part that let them down last season.

I'll believe both when I see it. Detroit has a high ceiling and low floor (they can have Tarasenko). There is no reason that we shouldn't be at least as good as they are, and for other teams to come back to the pack.

Will there be competition? Sure. That isn't to say that Krebs has much of a shot at winning it. Or being here, for that matter.

Ottawa picked up their biggest need and that’s a goalie
Detroit also has a full season of Kane and made some really good UFA signings. |

Bubble team. Don't see how anyone could project more. The top 6 production wasn't there last season to project much more and UPL/Levi can't be assumed to make a big jump.

Some recent publications came out that had the Sabres finishing 5th worst. Bottom 6 will not move the needle that much. Need top end skill still.
The same publication had the Sabres finishing with 84 points last year.
They are still not a playoff team as it stands baring some serious progression from Cozens, Krebs, Benson, Power, Samuelsson, |

I actually like Ottawa more than Detroit, but it also has holes.
Every year I hear about Detroit's gains in free agency. And then the next year, we hear about Yzerman getting rid of the previous year's crop. (shrugs) we'll see.

I don't know what any individual value is. I also don't think people on the Internet know what "value" actually is. What makes a player valuable, today.
Ryan McLeod is a good hockey player. Matt Savoie might be a good hockey player.
Not a single top 10 pick was used for a player the past two years.
The oilers valued Savoie more than 11 or 14. Which had the same value as 9.
So, yes he was worth more than his draft position. |

We could certainly use another top-end forward so that we don't have to depend on a kid stepping in. That said, there is still a lot of high-end talent on this roster. More importantly, I think we will have a much better chance of buying in to a real system and that should do wonders for us.
