I agree the joker contract is very strange. He could’ve gotten more money

We aren't making the playoffs my friend. Scratch that from your mind. We're going to pick top10, we will just skate faster to it this year.
- RhinoFan

They will be far more competitive.
The lineup is miles better... Better secondary and tertiary scoring...much better L3 (although I'd love to see Greenway replaced ... probably a TDL move).
The success will be driven by Top 6 getting their groove back.

Let us not forget having a proven NHL Coach, who is expert in systems and adjustments.

This is 90pt team. A top 6 acquisition gets us there.

High puck pressure with speed and physicality. .I'm far more optimistic.

every outlet I found said we got fleeced tonight

This is a sensible trade for Buffalo and a puzzling one for the Oilers, and the hockey twitter consensus take is precisely inverted on this deal.

https://x.com/ThomasDranc...ZR5vaCdU95ruLWrk8lCg&s=19

@JB_Hockey_ The 24 year old C with elite speed who has scored 30 points per 82 without PP time in from ages 21-24 has a far more likely path to top-six output than a prospect that’s tracked OK in his D+1 and D+2.

We traded a top10 pick that was almost NHL ready for a 25pt center man.

We are cooked folks.

- RhinoFan

He's 24 with upside.
Think Mitts and his development timeline.
Nobody on this team has his defensive acumen in the C ranks, and L3 is usually where they play.
Fast, high puck pressure, jump on turnovers... We just watched a team...
.
.
.win the SC with that profile.

You guys worry about the wrong sh!t.

If the moves he made gets them into the playoffs, I couldn't give two sh!ts what Savoie does. They have enough prospects, young players and picks. Helenius made Savoie expendable and they got one of the fastest players in the league, who's defensive metrics are outstanding. They have a true shut-down 3C now. Everyone kept saying, make a trade, get a 3C and I'll feel better, make a trade, overpay if you have to, blah, blah, blah.

You got what you wanted.

- Powerslave

As was said earlier, it's two straight drafts where the Sabres 1st round pick leaped ahead of Savoie.

I get your mad about savoie.

Look. One or even 2 of our top prospects was going to go via trade either way.

McLeod is a good 3C. Like his analytics all check out really nicely.

Savoie has a lot of red flags. He’s far from a sure thing or a slam dunk.

- got hurt in a prospect tournament against his peers. - not strong enough to battle vs kids his own age. He would get crushed vs older competition.

- left off the Canadian world junior team multiple times. - why? I would say that’s a red flag. Prospects of his stature always make the team.

- playoff games in roch. He went from 3 practices into playing games. He got benched and scratched due to his poor play. (Seth Alpert saw it 1st hand)

- injured again while benson replaced him.

- Sabres saw him rehab his injury and then play 3:55 in an nhl game. He was sooo bad and lost in that game. Then banned him to juniors.

I think watching playoffs. Players like savoie would get eaten alive. The late body checks, the chippiness, and more.

Look at what happened to Marner on the leafs. He sucked during playoffs.

- Sabretooth9

This is the same argument as paying a 2nd for a 4th liner like Beck. Well we were going to trade it so we got what we could.

Simply put. If you can't get more for Savoie you NEVER make that move. If you can't get better than Beck for a 2nd, you look elsewhere. If you can't acquire any top6 help, you don't buy out Skinner.

These are all horrid decisions that will be a big part of why this franchise will fold.

Surface value is top 10 pick for a third line center.

That third line center performs at an extremely high level, outside of the box score.

That top 10 pick is going into D+3 to the AHL.

Everyone demanded Kevo make a trade. Everyone claimed they didn't give a poop if he over payed, just get it done.

The perceived value shows he over payed. But what if he didn't? You have no idea if he actually did.

I want an overpay and get Brady Tkchuck. Mcleods GF is owner of Senators. Make it happen adams. Adding a shooter with his toughness would be huge. don't care if it takes Rosen, Ohstland and Kulich plus something else.

We totally transform our team from last year from a soft slow team to the fastest and hardest hitting.

We still have dudes in the pipeline to fill in when needed and would still be super young

This is a Meh trade for me. A little confusing and definitely an overpayment but we are going to have to over pay for players. Every other GM knows GmKA is desperate and they are going to take advantage of it. Get used to it.

Their bottom 6 was a collection of bros who fumbled around and got their poop pressed in.

Their bottom 6 now is fast, imposing, aggressive and extremely hard on the forecheck. This collection should be an absolute nightmare especially against middle 6 offense.

Give the guy credit, and/or Lindy, but they gave them a real identity, and that should be, prepare to get hurt and prepare to be exhausted.

There's a difference between overpaying and being robbed blind. This is inexcusable. I'd rather have just picked and made no trades. Same roster of 4th liners and no hope, but a brighter future for the next GM.

I’ve wanted to see Kulich up since like January. There is something the Sabres don’t like about him or his game.

No idea what it is.

- Sabretooth9

Consistency and better 200' game.
Just like a lot of young players
Forecheck, backcheck, paycheck.
He needs to show the backcheck is in his regular game.

People are absolutely glued to "he was a top 10 pick" and absolutely nothing else. there's not a lot of critical thinking here in the twitter sphere

If you like the trade, most of it should be based on viewing Savoie as a heavily degraded prospect.

This sums it up:

"There's nothing that a forward can do in the CHL in their D+2 that's really all that impressive or really justifies "elite prospect" status. "

https://x.com/TopDownHock...tatus/1809409192178180168

However you view him as a prospect, a #9 pick into a 3/4C is a crushing defeat.

If he scores 15 more points he's just a better Anthony Cirelli.

Does feel like they are getting a little too much credit for building a checking line.

Unless you're an AHL fan, no one knew who Beck Malenstyn was a few weeks ago.

Already did. Read more and as I said, it's even more depressing now. I'm sorry anyone is defending this catastrophe of an off-season or a single acquisition they've made. If I had to piss and Kevyn was on fire I'd hold it.

Two thirds of our team are 4th liners. Our best signing, Zucker, even played 4th line last year. This is truly the worst run team in professional sports, maybe of all time. No contemporary team comes close to Savoie for Ryan (frank)ing McLeod.

Better hope Tage, Tuch, Cozens, Peterka, Dahlin, Power and Quinn all score 40 each. Rest of these schmucks won't break 10.
