Savoie wasn’t going to be on the Sabres.
And if you actually watched skinner post December. The dude looked completely shot. He played with no pace and with the puck seemed like he was stuck in neutral. - Sabretooth9
The Mckinnon hit. He was never the same afterwards

He played 13 games...
And McLeod had a 49.2ozs%. McLeod will undeniably take a step back in our system...the way nearly every player we acquire does. But hey, even EDM were going to play him at 4C. Don't have to take my word for it, they know what they traded us.
What a collasal failure for a top10 pick. - RhinoFan
A top 10 pick that hasn’t been able to crack one of the worst teams in the league roster. But hey he’s going to flourish in Edmonton. |

Someone answer this though, everyone is avoiding this...
As bad as Skinner was, who is even replacing his impact? Statically it looks like it'd take about 4 of these guys. Seriously, if Tage, Tuch and Peterka get locked down one night...who saves us in this lineup? [url] |

Why? Does it feel better not knowing we use a top10 pick to get a 4C? That's the cost we paid. - RhinoFan
So if Savoie was drafted at 11th instead of ninth, this trade is completely fine because he’s not a top 10 pick? |

Hopefully they make another trade that you can then tell us how bad it is. |

Part of accepting this is understanding that his value dropped a lot since being drafted.
They were shopping him all summer. Have to assume this was their best offer.

This is my favorite part of talking out of both ends of your mouth. McLeod couldn’t move up the lineup because Edmonton has a stacked center position yet Savoie is going to somehow be amazing and unseat one of those amazing players and play with them and be 100 point player. |

I think you need to avoid trying to judge moves in a transactional way. The pieces need to fit together, and they need to all play in a system.

Agreed with the latter point. Savoie is definitely going to do well there.
Qualify it any way we want. We had 9OA and turned it into, AT BEST, a 3C. That's a failure Stripes. A collasal one. These decisions are what keep franchises like ours from improving and why NHL talent avoid us like the plague. |

I pray they don't. Few more of these type trades well be bottom 5 in standings and pools. |

Then you keep Savoie and let him regain value. Selling low and buying high isn't a justification but a bad excuse. |

Or his value continues to plummet and then you get nothing for him except a late round pick. |

I agree. I’ve said that in previous blogs.
But skinner said he was healthy and kept playing.
So which is it? |

You're trained not to make excuses. What else is he going to say? It happens all the time.

Or he just doesn’t have it and his value continues to fall?
You don’t like the trade, we get it. I don’t think any of us are thrilled with the trade but the facts are Savoie just isn’t worth what you think he is. Even his latest projections have him at 68% of being an NHL regular. |

Rhino …… that is why this entire message board, Twitter, Buffalo Sabres media, and even Marty biron still want a top 6 forward trade.
Did you miss that part?
And here is one of my favorite tweets. Check it out. It truly shows you how slow the Sabres were last year

How do you feel about Alex Nylander. - ImThatGuy
Played pretty well for CLB and I'd take him today over anyone we acquired in the past 5 years.
But he also got us more value than Savoie, despite being a worse prospect. So not sure they're the best comparables. |

Then who else are you going to trade for him? You're going to trade one of the other firsts in the pipeline. I would think that they offered Krebs instead.
Also, I heard that this trade originated on draft night. Isn't it likely that Edmonton really preferred our first this year?

He was drafted one spot ahead of Savoie was he not. He was traded for a bottom pair D. so in essence the return was even worse than Savoie so…..
Also, yikes on wanting Nylander and thinking he’s better than any player that the Sabres are acquired.
This is a meltdown of epic proportions. |
